I thought his release clause was something like £30m that doesn't sound a massive risk compared to the potential. But I suppose we would have to offer big wages too
I guess Forest's selling point is European football and a very good chance of him becoming first-choice striker relatively early on. Everton can offer the second part, too.
No guarantee he starts at Chelsea, while United are a basket case at the moment. He'd have to back himself to handle the immense pressure of a huge club currently on its arse and the eyes of the world on him. Perhaps he'd thrive in that environment.
At his age, I think there's merit in a couple of seasons at a club like Forest before a Morgan Move upwards. That said, I'd fully expect Delap to go where the money is.
Very happy to be guided by those who know more about the kind of player he is, but I'd struggle to get past the £23m striker who's managed only a hundred games in nearly five years at Sheffield United and scored fewer than ten goals.
Has ability. String of injuries. Currently valued at around a tenth of that. Out of contract. Recent reports suggest finally got a run of games (30+) and starting to show previous promise.
It's a third string development project that I think is achievable and could return value. We will be going with Wood, and Big T (possibly) as first choice and change. He is a reminder that development isn't always linear.
Agree we need to be considering development projects and their bang-for-buck value, but not sure our owner will see the same pull in potential signings like this.
You could also make an argument that competing next season on four fronts will need incoming players who can hit the ground running at the level.
Would be my view. The bloke's a beast, can do everything and is demonstrably at the level - 12 goals this season (his first proper one in the top flight) for a side that's lost more than 60 per cent of its games.
He makes most Premier League first elevens better, for me, even at this stage of his development and would be an incredible statement signing for Forest.
Maybe. It's certainly a more likely destination but Forest ought to be an attractive alternative for different reasons, if it's true that we're interested in Delap.
He'll be aware what can happen to promising young players at big clubs, plus what we've done for Gibbs-White, Murillo, Anderson, etc.
