If I had to choose one of Murillo, Gibbs White or Elanga to sell, it would be Gibbs White. There are less flair options that could do his job. In some circumstances, a willingness to be a bit simpler might be the better option. If less fun to watch.

Gibbs-White is the heartbeat of this Forest side and therefore the hardest to replace. Elanga has proven himself to be an excellent signing for Forest - it was a privilege to watch him at Ipswich last season when he was largely unplayable.

However, I'd argue that fast, direct wide players who can finish are more common than those like Morgan who have something else about them. Whether you can procure one is another thing.

Out of the current crop, I'd be more disappointed to lose Morgan, Murillo and Anderson than Elanga. And I really like Elanga. As others have said, buy-low-sell-at-top-of-price-point is the only way provincial clubs survive in the Premier League.

    Mangetout and Brid like this.

I really want to see what he looks like in a hopefully better Forest team too. When playing for the England team, with more possession and better players around him, he looked even better than he often does in a Forest shirt (where he's often grabbing the ball deep in his own half).

I don't want to lose any of them but the impact of not selling now is, probably, either adapting to a big departure in January or a panic sale next June. Although we made about 15m in profit last year, our trading loss was about 70m, we can only stay solvent by selling.

Anyone is replaceable, either by adapting our play or by buying. Elanga, giving us pace on the break, is the one that we'd definitely have to look outwards to bring in someone new, as I don't see that need going.

Few reports that Jair is done. Which means a good chance of first two inbound confirmed before the start of pre-season.

And that's before you add the players who were out on loan and will presumably be assessed in pre-season whether we want them to stick around - mainly Bindon and Carmo, as I doubt Stamenic and Richards stand much chance, let alone O'Brien and Dennis.

One of which suggests that we are getting him cheap because Textor and Marinakis have a deal going where Marinakis will pay for some projects that Textor is planning, including youth development and scouting. It has previously been reported that Textor told UEFA that Lyon's financial position would improve because he was selling players from Botofago to Forest and would transfer those funds to Lyon. Meanwhile, Textor's Lyon are reportedly now back in for Turner. But, Forest and Lyon are both set to play in the Europa Conference League next season.

There has been a report of Richards reporting to Rio Ave for pre season and staying there for another year.

Lyon are in the Europa league at the moment aren't they? And it sounds as if, if their relegation stands, they'll drop out of europe altogether.

We could both be Europa league, if their relegation is reversed and it leads to Palace getting kicked out and we take their place. But you can't take action based on clubs making arrangements between themselves. Marinakis's "blind trust" would have been far more problematic.

Yes, apologies I'm confusing myself, but then it is all pretty messy so that's my excuse.

I think Marinakis has been looking to invest in at least one Brazilian academy - perhaps it is going to be Botofogo's - I presume as long as he doesn't have any shares or control over the holding company it isn't perceived to be an issue by UEFA?

It's somewhat ironic that it's the capitalists who always actually seize the means of production.

Transfermarkt reckons Botafogo paid EUR12m in February for Cunha/Jair/whatever he prefers, which seems very close to the reported price we are paying, so there's clearly something weird going on.

I thought that was Marx's point that they controlled the means of production, the workers had to seize it off them?

Sure. My point was the people don't kick up a fuss when it's heading that way, but are encouraged to when it moves contrary to their own interests. People, generally speaking, are fucking idiots.

I disagree about it not being a problem. Global financing of once local football clubs networked through a combination of multi-club groups and unrooted billionaire pals distorts the one time sport of football, as well as being a significant risk for criminal activity.
