The other obvious issue with Cunha is he plays in MGW’s position. Yes, we need strength in depth but I’d see that as adaptable players and clear upgrades. Paying £62m for a guy who’s direction competition with our main man would be bizarre.
The Athletic said we were the best place for Delap to go and he looks like a great fit for us.
Delap would be good but only if we also got someone a bit more down the line in terms of development. One season in the prem at a struggling club does not a champions league (hopefully) striker make.
As we would be offering top table football perhaps we could tempt a Jared Bowen or someone of that ilk? He can do the flanks and/or a striker’s role.
If we're in Europe, we've got to consider the home grown / club grown players rules. Makes you wonder if the likes of Cash & Brennan come in to consideration if their clubs don't make it to Europe..
I was thinking about Lascelles in the Boly role but he's never fit. Darlow would be too big a risk as back up keeper and not likely to come to be third choice.
I really like the look of Delap. As we've said previously, he looks a natural long-term replacement for Wood. Big, strong, mobile and can bully centre-halves - I like the cut of his jib.
I can't see how or why we'd sign Cash when he plays in the same position as one of the leading contenders for our Player of the Season. Are we thinking that Aina will leave?
Just trying to think of "club grown" players, assuming none of the Academy are going to be close to the levels needed (yet). I wouldn't touch Ahmedhodzic either but he's probably a safer better than Lascalles or Zach Abbott
We've got two homegrown players in the current squad, Yates and Abbott. The squad for UEFA competition is different to that for the Premier League though, so we can just name 23 of our regular 25 and add the best two Academy lads to satisfy the requirement for European competition. We don't need to be spending lots of money on players in positions where we're already well served, or dross that we wouldn't look twice at if they hadn't spent a few years here already.
I agree, but wouldn't put Brennan in that category (not sure you were?). I'd be very happy to have him back to give us another option up front. Rotating Brennan with Elanga and Hudson-Odoi would be a huge upgrade on Silva or Sosa for next season.
I wonder if Forest could write off some money on the initial transfer to Spurs - I suspect that could have PSR implications if it's already been accounted for?
