Just occurred to me that I could start match threads and exclude certain trolls from them.
I wondered about that but I guess it’s a very long way around the problem and some people really do seem to want to keep engaging.
I just want to be able to hide their posts.
Ignoring posts is not possible. I thought it was, but I've been looking into it. It was previously a feature, and some of the setting stubs remain in the software...but they don't do anything.
A shame, but that's that.
It is possible to hide both threads and individual posts (I have been mucking about with that). but if you have permissions to hide, you can view the post.
If you start mucking about with users posts, or requiring review before publishing, or moderating, or applying temporary bans...or whatever measures you require....then the community has to become one not based on freedom of speech, but on imposed community standards. There has to be some sort of structure to do that.
Of course private threads, with multi-participants that exclude certain people are possible.
Yeah, I have no interest seeing moderation or bans used for anything other than egregious breaches of community values. If people want to troll, and/or others want to engage with posters that I, personally, would like to chuck in the bin.. of course they should be able to do so.
Sticking certain user posts behind a spoiler-type feature is generally the right way to handle this, I think, so it’s a shame that isn’t an option… but it isn’t on the old board either (even though it used to be?) so nothing is lost.
I don't think there has ever been such a feature, beyond the imaginary piece of card.
I am sure it was… but, weirdly, you could only ignore one person.
Similar certainly exists on other platforms.. but I am sure I remember being able to so it on TB. Mind you, I am tired, old, and often confused.
It's a feature I'd like...but then not as much as some other features. It's a question of most good, least bad, when choosing fit for purpose.
I would certainly look into a potential plugin for it...but it would be best to promise nothing, because it would not be quick, if ever.
