I seem to remember the 4th official got involved when we played at Brum years ago, resulting in a late Brum penalty winner for an Assombalonga hand ball, which he got sent off for,
And there is this: Nottingham Forest are furious with the decision-making process by the match officials in the 2-2 draw with Brighton and believe it goes directly against guidelines they were given before the season.
The game exploded with seven minutes to go when Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White was shown a second yellow card for a challenge in front of the dugouts on Brighton’s Joao Pedro.
Referee Rob Jones appeared to signal Gibbs-White had got the ball but Forest believe he was overruled by fourth official Anthony Taylor, who instructed the official to show a second yellow Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo was also sent off for his reaction to that decision, as was Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler for his role in the aftermath.
Forest are thought to be particularly upset about the decision as they were told by Professional Game Match Officials Ltd before the start of the season that referees’ on-field calls would be backed -–not overturned as was the case here. The protocol was termed ‘referee’s call’ in meetings between officials and managers before the season started, and it is thought that Forest believe today’s decision contradicts the edict and undermines the on-field referee.
Clearly they're talking about VAR. The ref has always been able to consult with the other officials in order to ensure he arrives at the correct decision, which he clearly did. It's really not something to be throwing a tantrum about, both of Morgan's yellows were justified.
Anyway, the game is in the past and I am
Probably more disappointed with our break at the end where we managed to cock it up by playing the ball late and even then cocked it up not knowing it was offside.
Im curious to see who plays 10 next week. Could be Anderson. Could also be Ward Prowse or Portugrealish. Much as Gibbs White is utterly 100% I do wonder what a calmer head who plays simpler balls might achieve. I think we will also need to have a steadier center mid as Fulham are starting to look good.
When Sosa broke at end but was flagged offside, ref went back and booked Dunk for his foul on (Jota?) who passed to Sosa.
But restarted game with free kick to Brighton for the offside.
Surely there was no advantage from the Dunk foul as Sosa was offside when the pass was made so should have been our free kick for the foul?
On the sending off, probably right decision, but Jones doesn't help himself with the played the ball gestures before changing his mind.
But why doesn't the Brighton player who got treated not have to leave the pitch for the mandated 30 seconds?
Anyway good point, was good atmosphere, but how the hell they were allowed to build a ground with such shit transport links is incredible. Horrible place to go to. Toton would have been worse.
The same point has been made on Twitter - bemoaning the fact professional refs don't appear to know the actual rules (see also the joker at WFCG v bindippers last season).
Jones played advantage, but as Sosa was offside, there was no advantage to be gained, due to the offside, so play should have restarted with a free-kick to Forest for the foul.
The 4th official is meant to be helping with stuff the ref didn't see, but he clearly sees it as his hand signals suggest. At that point Taylor is pretty much re-reffing the game. It's the right decision but how they've got there is a joke.
Really? One station with massive queues surely. We waited nearly an hour yesterday to get on a train across to Lewes. And we weren't at the back of the queue.
