First time I can remember thinking Cooper watched a different game to me with his post match comments.

Though he did end saying there weren't many positives, so guess his comments may have been an attempt at self preservation.

Yeah, that was gutless. We have better, more technical players than last season. But we don’t have the organisation or the spirit, and that was what helped us survive. Too good to go down? Heard it before…

How do you move our best player without changing a system that isn't working?
    Tough question...

Really terrible game. Everton are rubbish which says an awful lot about our performance today. I thought it was exemplified by us passing the ball to each other when the ball needed to be played forward at the end of the game. Our midfield is so far away from Wood it’s pointless playing him.

Garner was their MOM. Muriel was ours. Serge was dreadful. I cannot believe he stood like a statue for their goal. At least run out and try and block it.

A lifeless lifeless performance. And for the record Ryan was absolutely fouled for a penalty (that wasn’t given) before they scored their slightly flukey goal. Wood headed it to McNeil. Good finish but again no attempt to close down.

I said at the end of the window that our lack of attacking options might be a problem if Taiwo gets fucked.. This has come to pass.

Do we have any yoof who can give it some welly.

What’s bothering me is the lack of intensity. It’s a little strange. If it’s not going well get down and fight. MGW and Yates have it. The rest apart from Muriel not so much. It’s all a little strange.

Fuck it. Let’s beat Fool’em next week and go on for there. Something needs to change though.

I still think we should stick with Steve. Is it time to rage yet Jim?

    Chicago: Feeling the pinch.

What system are you advocating for instead, and do you have examples of it working?

  • 3 Dec 2023, 12:23 a.m.

Examples of MGW playing in the middle and it working? Yes, I can think of several, although it rather relied on having Brennan Johnson, unfortunately.

So the next two games are away to Fulham and Wolves. 0/1 point from those two games and I think SSC is toast.

Elanga is improving and doing a great job, but it’s increasingly obvious why we got him for £15m, whilst BJ was picked up by a top 6 side for £40m. Johnson is a terrific player who sides like Everton would be in constant fear of because whatever else we were doing, he could, and would, be a single, devastating, threat. Selling him probably made sense, but we miss him and haven’t figured out how to play without him.

That game was, obviously, gash. Muriel and Elanga did well, and I actually thought that Sangarre showed some of his quality in the first half.. but Everton didn’t do much other than keep going and battling until something broke right for them. We brought nothing to the table.

    SSC in, though, obviously.

Just to clarify: I want Cooper to change things, rather than someone else.
And, obviously, if things start working using the current tactics then I'll be happy.

But when things aren't good and the best player isn't performing for some likely reasons then I'd like pragmatism to kick in. He did it last season and I'm confident he'll do it this season.

Cooper by his nature is a low possession, threaten on transitions manager. At home, against non big six teams, that isn’t an option now as everyone is smart enough to not over commit. And Wood doesn’t help.

I know hardly anyone likes this comparison but now four points behind the equivalent games from last season. But last season we lost all of the next seven (four points from the next 10) so plenty of opportunities there to make up some ground.

My son tells me we have won 1 game in last 10 and are second bottom in form table over 10, only Sheff Utd worse.

  • 3 Dec 2023, 1:43 p.m.

My son tells me that he's having Sunday lunch in WB... and that Sean Dyche and family are on the next table.

My son is in a crusty sock along with the rest of them.

It feels like the end for Ccoper. In the past when under pressure he’s come out with key wins. Yesterday was just drab. By this time
next week it’s likely 5 defeats on the trot, he’s not surviving that.
