I wish I was surprised at the number of people who already want roll the dice on a new managerial appointment from the man who gave us Karanka, O'Neill and Hughton before he got someone in to advise him to give the job to Cooper.

Agree with that. Going over old ground now, but Cooper has been responsible for me falling head over heels in love with Forest again after a long period when I tried my hardest not to give a fuck. I suppose there's a chance that any successor could bring the same magic connection, but it's ridiculously slim. As others have pointed out recently, football today is much more about gamblers in Asia and fantasy football everywhere than it is about the 28,000 souls who gather at the City Ground. When we become another faceless club performing in a library of a stadium to plastic fans, I'll be well and truly oot.

Unless we're competing in Europe and winning cups of course.

The club died for me when O’Driscoll was fired. There was a brief revival with TGLE, and SSC fired it all back to life. I like him, and I like us.

I don’t think losing SSC will send the trajectory in the right direction.. but being in the PL is fun and I am quite invested in the squad and the storyline.. so maybe the laundry will be entertaining enough for a while. I like caring about a team.

I stopped caring for quite a while - let the season tix go etc - but was reinspired and began to care again under Cooper.
I doubt it'll take much for my interest levels to drop again, but currently I quite enjoy being bothered enough to talk about Forest again in the pub.

There's also an argument for being at the top of the league below and mainly winning as opposed to doing the opposite in the Premier league.
That said, brushing with relegation is not necessarily a bad thing. The common denominator is the level of jeopardy which is what piques the interest levels and drives the atmosphere in the ground. Mid-table obscurity is not something I'm overly interested in.

I’m not on board with the “I’d rather be top of the Championship” argument for several reasons. Mainly that it’s not logical .

1. Anywhere near the top brings promotion and play-off hope and expectation. So it’s the opposite of relegation jeopardy. We now all know the difference in joy between losing in the play-offs (or missing out on the last day) and winning.
2. There are inevitably some dismal days out and some turgid games
3. We would not attract the calibre of player (for a long period) that is genuinely exciting or manager that is genuinely progressive.

So it’s an effectively a non-existence. Not good enough to go up, not bad enough to go down? And mid-table obscurity is much more difficult to orchestrate in the Championship and much less fun.
