He isn't the football leader at the club, he's the head coach of the first team. If and when a young player might be worthy of consideration for the first team, he will be alerted to it by the people whose job it is to watch, nurture and develop young players. The Cloughs and Fergusons are a thing of the past.

I don't think anyone is saying that. Our written history is littered with seemingly minor interactions proving to be the stimulus for events of global significance.

I can think of a small thing that someone said to me once, that went on to affect me substantially for the rest of my life. I bet you can. So we don't want to risk that? Literally every second can be used more profitably? It's okay for the likes of tricky to wander over to a kids game out of interest.... but we need our manager to keep a distance because the kids might not conform to our expectations of their mental makeup at this age, and we need to make sure that they are autonomous productive units right from being small children? Keep away from imperfectly formed footballers, spend the time more productively on the phone to the superagent. Kapow!

I just can't reconcile your thinking. The columns do not add up.

We arent, most likely, going to be developing any significant talent while Nuno is our coach. And not because of anything he does or doesn't do. I totally do not in any way hold that against him.

I do find it a bit odd that a head coach has no interest in football that goes on under their roof. That's unusual in my experience.

You do realise that this is just petty jealousy?

There are just as many players coming through now as there have ever been and, in England they are probably the most talented group we’ve ever had. If they didn’t work hard in training they couldn’t make it. You can’t slack off and go drinking every night any more.

No, that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that I think Nuno being on the sideline or not is of little or no consequence either way. Obviously if he does go watch Academy games it is going to do no harm, and stands an outside chance of doing some good. But I wouldn't want him doing it at the expense of something more directly impactful to the first team.

Read it from a certain perspective, and it's actually a beautifully written parody piece.

As an aside, I don't believe that I have ever said or suggested that Cooper was good at youth development. I don't believe that winning an age group world cup proves that you can develop young players. Particularly if you have by far the best squad. You might have done 'worse' than another coach. .... but still had better enough resources to cover your deficiencies. And you might have won a tournament, but not advanced any of the players potential senior international career.

What I have always said (subject to challenge) is that Cooper is one of the best at change management that I have seen.

I wonder how many players he has given their 'ship debut to? I don't know, but for the number of games I'd be surprised if it wasn't unusually high.

I've had a quick look through the numbers. There may be some errors, depending on the accuracy of the data source...but it seems that this is broadly what we have been dealing with.

    Season 2022/23
    Players Used: 32
    Players making Club Debut: 19
    Players making EPL debut: 18

    Season 2023/24 (to date)
    Players Used: 28
    Players making Club Debut: 12
    Players making EPL debut: 9

This is a result of various mixes...so you have players like Brennan playing, not making a club debut, but making his EPL debut. Wood playing, making his club debut, but not his EPL debut, and players like Danilo making both club and EPL debut. All just simplistically add '1' to the respective counts.

    Bindippers have a 'car clause'.
I remember Jackie Lester banning coloured boots in our academy - you have to earn the right to wear them.
And I remember Reidy complaining about Hughton giving too many academy players their debut in the League Cup, as they hadn't properly earned it.

I'm now proper angry thinking about how good Yates and Worrall would've been had they not wasted their evenings racing their cars around West Bridgford.
    The cunts.

I stopped reading after Guru coined the term Trickysplaining which was and still is hilarious…

Merry Xmas you mince pie eating cnuts.

I think the academy kids should be baking. That way they learn a new skill just in case.

Chicago: (of course I read the rest of it….)

The boiler is fine. Other things are not, like the thermal store.

Chic another comuk on the bee bar.
