I think all of these players are capable of much better than we have seen in the right environment, but this isn't it and they probably shouldn't be in this combination. We've tried to go all technical but lost all physical while doing it. The owner has dropped a massive bollock this season from the position we were in, so some more people are probably going to have to be sacked for it.
I’m not at all convinced by Mcatee but was he playing as a deeper lying midfielder yesterday? We can’t have bought him for that role? Or was it some sort of 4-1-4-1?
If he was playing alongside Luiz, then Dyche is taking the piss and setting him up for failure.
Who would we have played though, given think we all agree wanted to rest the normal midfield as much as possible?
Which takes us back to recruitment again, who thought those two would be capable back ups (which is what Dyche was saying I think. And none of our managers have wanted to use the backups).
At full strength, we have five covering those two positions, all with their own merits and drawbacks. Dominguez is hardly in the position of having been run into the ground, he’d played about 800 minutes before last night, compared to Anderson who is well over 2000 minutes for us alone.
Also an inditement on the pathway from the under 18’s to the first team squad, since promotion no-one has come close to becoming a first team regular, or even looking like a regular 1st option off the bench.
If Abbott isnt rated as highly as Morato then there really isn’t much hope for him. He would have been better off going out on loan rather than the odd appearance at full back.
