The sooner Nuno realises that we need to play Wood or Igor not Wood and Igor, the better.

On the latest Forest Focus podcast there was a comment that Nuno, at Wolves, attempted to turn them into a more possession based team - and the number of chances they created fell through the floor, eventually leading to his dismissal. Heavily caveated that they lost some important players which were not replaced well. But still.

I personally think that the end of last season, combined with this pre season, is pointing towards us really struggling to score goals.

The talent we have in the squad would suggest we will find a way, somehow, but I'm expecting it to be a long hard season. Though it always is in the PL isn't it.

It's not as long and hard when you're winning half of the games.

The lack of goals in preseason is obviously cause for some degree of concern, but the corollary to that is that apart from the Fulham game we've also apparently been defensively rock solid.

Re the tactical question. Given he has achieved 7th place 3 times with teams not playing possession based football why on earth would he once again attempt to change a winning formula? Also he ain't going to create a possession based team playing Wood or Yates regularly.

If you look at our games in August and September, only Arsenal and Palace will come at us and leave space on the break. All the others will be happy to sit back and let us have the ball. We need to be able to find a way to win against that.

Funnily enough I was thinking this about Liverpool in the charity shield today. Don't remember seeing a team take the pitch looking so shredded.

Arse fell out of them in the second half.

Please sir, me sir, me sir!

Pump the ball in often for wood to get on.

Agreed. I'll be following Dave's lead and putting a few quid on the Brentford game ending 0-0 though.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but I kinda agree. I would like to see more crosses. Jesus seems to be good in the air too. A left footed attacking player on the pitch would help with this greatly.

  • 10 Aug 2025, 9:08 p.m.

Absolutely not a joke. I'm of the 'try to score' rather than the 'try to keep the ball' school of thought.

Wood is good in the air. It's not what most 'ship teams are used to dealing with.

Takes a hell of a cross though, which we are not accustomed to doing, especially at pace. Our high crosses are inevitably slow, clipped balls - as players cut back on their stronger foot, or lay it behind them - which are much easier to defend, unless your name is Chris Gunter.

  • 10 Aug 2025, 9:40 p.m.

Our best crossers of the ball are playing for Newcastle and Charlotte this season.

  • 10 Aug 2025, 9:53 p.m.

I'm hoping NDoye can be the "get to the byline and put over a good ball" guy.

  • 10 Aug 2025, 10:29 p.m.

I take your point, but given that I don't really see us passing our way through many of the teams, I would advise getting better at crosses. As you know, 'better crosses' isn't necessarily hitting a perfect ball, sometimes hitting it early into a good area, and your attackers knowing it's coming and making the run behind (or across), can be enough.

If we are going to get it wide and get crosses in, then we probably need two wingers and two centre forwards. Which probably leaves Anderson and Gibbs-White as the midfield two, which feels a bit lightweight.
