We can't fairly judge him on last season. He had a bad injury and personal problems and if those are both out of the way he deserves a crack before he's consigned to Bopp/Carvalho status. His best moments were probably his debut against Southampton where he showed he can play some very high quality and high vision passes; that isn't enough to dine out on forever or even to get him a place in the squad and if the Saudi's want to give us a chunk for him that may be too good for him and us to turn down. However, if he's training well and has his head down (which I hear he does) and Cooper wants him he could yet prove to be ok. I think he has some versatility too, and does on the left of a front 3 and he seems to have good personality.
He would get picked ahead of a big lump on the left for me, and ahead of shelvey to play wider range passes from the middle. Not seen enough of him to really know his influence over a game....but as a backup at 10, I can't think of many ahead of him (behind MGW obviously).
I strongly suspect he will be better than most at set piece.
I'm happy to back the coaches judgement over whether, and how, to get him in a side. but I don't make him our 26th or worse player.
