Yes, and with the greatest of respect, that's bullshit. If you're in the ground, you've got no access to replays, and none of the various analytical tools that you get when watching on the television, etc.
Really hope Wood is ok. He wasn’t strapped up or anything and seemed to be walking just fine when he came over to the fans at the end. Nuno sounded down about Taiwo. I did hear a rumour yesterday on the way to the game that he’s out for the season.
Edited to add… I heard this (and initially dismissed it) from somebody who sometimes does know stuff and before the squad announcement, so there may be some truth to it.
It's a worry that Luton were coming off a devastating defeat and are also on their last legs physically but we couldn't get over the line. This two week break and then the first game after are huge. It feels like Luton are desperate to have some time to regroup and recover. If we lose 6 points during the international break that game against Palace is huge, especially as a points deduction for us and Everton brings Burnley right back into the mix. One late goal, in a game we should have wrapped up, and the whole landscape changed in an instant.
Agreed. It's just such a shame and a massive frustration - for him more than anyone else. I love the bloke and think he's the best striker we've had for years, with the clear potential to get better.
This is elite-level football, though, and maybe his body isn't quite up to the demands placed upon it.
I don’t think it’s that we couldn’t hold on. If we’d got the win it would have been great because of the points.. the worry is that in a very winnable game against a knackered and injury-ravaged side who are bottom-three material even in their best circumstances.. we spent about 2/3rds of the game looking hopeless. Most of our players were either not in the game at all, or being there and not doing much of anything vis-a-vis winning the game. The extra points wouldn’t have changed that. If we’d actually played well and got a point, it would have been a decent days work.
I’m less down on the Nuno era than most. Even since the early uptick, I think we look more competitive than we were looking under SSC (which isn’t to say that a properly supported Cooper wouldn’t have managed us out of the rut we got into) but there’s too much that we are consistently bad at and nothing about the way we are headed, or the people driving, points towards a change. My bones tell me we’ll just about survive.. but that next season could be hellish whichever division we end up in.
Still, thank fuck for Murillo. He’s got his lessons to learn n’all.. but it’s a joy watching him every week, and if nothing else we have a few more months for him to score that worldly before better clubs start sharpening their chequebooks.
There's lots on Twitter about regrouping, getting onto the training ground during international break. But surely a big chunk of the squad are flying away today/tomorrow for 10 days or so with their countries
So less time together than we get in a normal week.
I would imagine it has long been arranged that players have a few days off to start the international break, this seems like the perfect time of the season to give players a chance to relax and recharge.
This is a stupid international break as it's mostly friendlies, the only players who are involved in competitive games are Neco Wiliams and Odysseas in the Euro qualifiers and Wood in some weird cup tournament New Zealand are playing in Cairo. A few of the others have friendlies including Murillo who has just been called up by Brazil for the first time, but none of the other South Americans are involved.
