To be fair, the tv commentary was saying the same about Sangare. I wasn’t seeing it. He didn’t do anything terribly wrong, just looked incredibly uncomfortable any time he had/has the ball, imho.
When I read sentences saying Yates should be replaced as failing miserably to contain Barkley, it’s pretty obvious to conclude you think he’s being ineffective in stopping Luton play. Compare and contrast to ex pro on radio saying Yates is being excellent in dominating midfield and stopping Luton play. Go figure
Yates has done his usual effective impression of Yates. But we would be better off if we had, say, Danilo doing an effective impression of Danilo.. which, alas, he’s not been able to do recently.
I’d like to see Forest hold onto the ball just a little better or look more settled at the back, so my blood pressure isn’t through the roof every time the opposition is within 20 yards of the Forest box.
I appreciate that in some minds Yates and Cooper are beyond any and all reproach and any suggestion that something they are or aren't doing is less than perfect is to be met with a defence of extreme hostility, but I quite clearly said that Sangare and Yates as a pair were failing to stop Barkley which anyone who watched the first half would be hard pushed to disagree with. I also said that they were failing to create anything, which was and is also true.
The second half the midfield has been improved, instead of attempting to climb on Barkley's back and kick round his legs they're actually stopping him getting the ball in the first place. They're still both failing to do anything remotely useful with the ball though.
With respect, ex pro or not, if you're watching it on tv you aren't seeing the full game in the way someone in the ground is. A lot of what Yates and Sangare have been doing well this afternoon is off the ball.
