It was kinda ok if you watched it live tbh as I did.

Birtles is even more incoherent than normal on the latest Forest Focus podcast

I find it incredibly frustrating that noone can see that you manage players minutes in September to reduce their risk of injury in March. And that you need to keep the whole squad involved, so that when they are needed they aren't rusty as hell.

To be fair I think many can, just not Mr Birtles.

If we'd played our 'best eleven' every game this season so far I'm fairly confident we'd have more injuries than we already have to deal with.

Back in birtles day you only found elite athletes in the Olympics. They could manage one race every four years and had a fair chance of breaking down.

Now that top flight footballers are elite athletes, there are those who don't understand why they can't play every game like they did in the muddy pitch clogger days. Despite the evidence of their own eyes when a team can be seen to visibly come off the level within the course of one game.

There is knowledge, experience, and intelligence. Not everyone has the full set.

Not to defend Birtles (and I don't know what he said as I haven't listened) but I'd rather have points in the bank now than a mostly fresh squad chasing down a 6 point gap to safety in March.

Although the smart approach right now imo is a full strength team for every Premier League game, and second choice players for European games. UEFA Cup is irrelevant until we stabilize in the League.

Not smart for Ange. He needs a win and this is his best chance for a while.

I started to write similar, then figured I'd make a match thread

I’ve become a fairly regular listener to ForestFocus which is generally good.

Yesterday I strayed onto Red Side of the Trent. Is it normally that shit? If I wanted that level of illiterate, fact-free ranting, surely I’d just go and sit in BC Upper? Or was it just a bad day?

    Reviews welcome.

I have listened to it occasionally and it is not really my thing.

Forest Focus is normally decent, and the BBC one is ok too

For me, Red Side of the Trent is a more reactive podcast. When times are good, they are joyous, but when bad it's a horrible experience. They do some of my favourite tactical analysis work too, unless things are bad, when a lot of objectivity is discarded.
Of the ones I try to listen to, Focus is the most professional and consistent, with only a couple of grating voices; 1860 has George and Jeremy who are excellent; Garibaldi has the least insight and worst regulars, but occasionally plays a blinder, especially with Sarah Clapson.

So I mostly listen to Focus these days. But I still like Barry Girdles (even when he talks bollux, as we/they all do to a lesser extent), and I appreciate that's increasingly niche.

I gave up on FF when we got promoted and they started producing 4 or 5 pods a week; the quality of the content dropped massively and I couldn't be bothered sorting through the chaff to find the odd one that was interesting.

I ignore the immediate post match ones, anything about the women's team and any news update ones (which he seems to have stopped doing) and it doesn't seem excessive to me.

It's quite telling that he's been able to make Seb Hutchinson and Adam Sommerton semi regulars, as presumably they could be doing something else.

I always wonder if any of the contributors get a fee. It feels like they don't, but some of the main ones are on 5-6 hours a week and it feels like they should.

There can’t be much money floating around the NFFC podcast scene. The audience potential is tiny in podcast terms… and this thread makes it seem like there are several people putting stuff out that’s at least reaching a credible standard.
