City have West Ham, Leeds, Everton in their next three matches. Arsenal have Chelsea, Newcastle and Brighton in the same period. I will be surprised if there's still only a one point gap between them by the time we face Arsenal, and even if there is, with two games left to play and City having a lead and a game in hand I think Arsenal will already know they're cooked by the time they arrive at the WFCG.

I'll take Arsenal tonight to further demoralise a Chelsea team that already doesn't appear to give much of a shit.

They should have gone for Sam.

Fingers crossed Arsenal give Chelsea a sound mullering tonight, to keep Chelsea's morale as low as possible.

I love that there's a National League playoff game happening and every time the camera is on the goal at the right end of the pitch you can see a bunch of people playing 5 a side on the Power League pitches next to it. They could just walk up to the fence and watch a crucial 5th tier game that has huge professional consequences, but they'd rather just carry on having a kick about with their mates.

If Sheffield United beat Huddersfield on Thursday, the final relegation spot will be decided on Monday when Reading go to Huddersfield. If Reading win they will stay up and relegate the dog botherers, any other result and Reading go down.

OK now I hope Leeds go down.

I've had a couple of drinks with BigSam, and I have had football friends who know him well (including who put him through his badges at Notts). I know what he means...his influence and forward thinking when it comes to sports science is often overlooked, when compared to the more tabloidy pint of wine stuff (not his drink of choice when I saw him, but that was back in his Notts days).

I am less predisposed to be disparaging about him, although I don't doubt he's far from perfect. Like us all.

Sports science isn't going to save Leed in four games. Lack of familiarity with the squad wont help. Not everyone in the squad will respond to his no nonsense approach.

I remain fairly confident of a poor outcome. For them.

I'm inclined to be generous to the arrogant bastard. When he had the players, he got them playing very good football, as well as effective. However, he doesn't know the Leed squad, he's been out of the game a while, and the whole exercise smacks of desperate short-termism. Hopefully it will be as pointless as it is pointless.

The commentator in the City v West Ham game is suggesting West Ham's injury situation is getting very tough (Soufal has just gone off injured). Given they have European games to play, as well as PL games, hopefully it gets even worse. They should be safe, but a run of 3 or so straight defeats would get them concerned again.

Highly unlikely that three of the teams below them will overtake their current position, especially when three are miles behind on goal difference. Still discounting them.

  • 4 May 2023, 7:13 p.m.

Given West Ham still have to play Leeds and Leicester it does us no harm if they are motivated to get points after a likely defeat to Man Utd.

  • 4 May 2023, 10 p.m.

Brighton v Man U has been a heck of a game. Brighton absolutely battered them most of the second half but couldn't find a break through, then Luke Shaw did a Niakhate in the 95th minute and gave away a penalty which McAllister scored with the last kick of the game. Brighton now three points off Liverpool in 5th with a game in hand and 2 goals to make up in GD.

Clubs getting relegated from the Championship following points deductions for financial mismanagement/irregularities seems to be an accepted annual event now.

  • 5 May 2023, 12:24 p.m.

It does, and it's a shame that so much relegation is decided by committee, but fuck Paul and Tom Ince though.

Except when it's Derby it's happening to, then it's funny and entirely appropriate.
