The highest points total to get relegated in a 38 team premier league was West Ham in 2003(ish) with 42. The team in 17th that year got 44.
Not sure why that seems relevant at the moment.

The annoying thing is that if Chelsea had just been mildly shit and drawn the game, that would still have given us an opportunity to open the gap further by beating Palace.
EDIT: they've pulled one back. 2-1 now.

We've played several teams when it's The Right Time To Play Them, and it feels like we lost every match, whether it's AFCON, injuries, suspensions, or whatever.
I've come to dread TRTTPT this year. Although it seems Ferencvaros were an exception, possibly because it was a dead rubber, near enough. -

Exactly this. If West Ham hold on for a point today, we have the chance tomorrow to extend the gap between us to the seven points it was after we beat them - and before they won a couple of games.
