Tbf Newcastle have been pretty mediocre so far this season.

We are going to get better. There were already plenty of signs of it yesterday against one of the league's form teams.

Extraordinarily poor penalty decision in the old firm game.

If I was being pedantic I'd point at our XG under Ange. In other circumstances we could have won 3-5 of his games. But we didn't. Signs of looking better aren't worth any points on the board.

We've beaten Porto (one of the form sides in Europe), lost to Bournemouth (one of the form teams in the Premier League) and drawn with Man Utd (one of the form teams in the Premier League). In the two games where we got a result, we seem to have looked better as a team than under the previous manager.

Honestly not sure what people were expecting.

I think you're getting discussion points confused. Our games so far under Dyche have been encouraging. I'm pleased. But to think that we're now suddenly going to be safe is for the fairies. I'm struggling, as is JR I think, to give you 3 teams we're going to finish above.

On results to date, I see your point.

But we are not going to concede as many goals as we have done to date, and we will pick up more points. So we are in the game.

I don't think I am getting confused. I don't understand why West Ham winning their 5th(?) game under Nuno, having shown little in his first 4 games, means they will finish above us?

Signs of us getting better - which we are seeing - will lead to more goals and more points, especially at home with the WFCG crowd behind us. Under the previous manager we seemed to be getting worse, and the atmosphere was flagging, that negative momentum has been arrested.

Are we definitely going to survive? No. But I've seen more than enough to suggest we can.

So far Dyche has continued the trend of conceding 2 goals per game.

Ange was dead on 2 also and Nuno 5 in 3 games.

    So no great improvement yet?.

And new managers normally have their best results early before the team revert to type.

    Are some of my concerns.

Before today, it wasn’t working that way for Nuno.

No guarantees but we’re capable of finishing above West Ham, Wolves, Leeds and Burnley. And I don’t think Brentford are entirely safe.

It's probably going to take a bit of time to "fix" a defence that was already conceding 2 a game. And we largely kept Porto at arm's length. Set pieces definitely a concern.

I think Murillo makes that clearance under Nuno, and under Dyche. Maybe less so under the other guy, I can't really remember any similar clearances (by anyone, I know Murillo was often injured) during those dark 39 days. By contrast there were loads under Nuno, and the one yesterday saved a point. We'll need that bloody-mindedness to survive.

It's a good point that under Ange that probably would've gone in,

Murillo cleared very similarly last year from Maguire.

Wood back will be interesting if Dyche can get him scoring.

Will Will Still still have a job by Southampton’s next game. Doubtful.

I assume his full name is William Stilliam?
