Didn’t they offer him a new deal that he’s only just turned down?

Arsenal have handled this really badly. Everyone knew for months that Partey was under suspicion and Arsenal did nothing about it (unlike other clubs in similar situations).

But they have become a whining cunty club so I expect nothing better.

Just less embarrassing if he's not under contract to them.

I don't think it makes the slightest difference, it's not like people immediately forget he was an Arsenal player 24 hours after his contract with them expires.

He hadn't been charged with any offences, I think we have to be careful to assume guilt.
Once/if charged I’d expect anyone to then be suspended etc, but not before.

The real problem is how long it takes to get to a possible charge, but that what happens when the criminal justice has been run down over the last decade. And it’s not unique to the Met or a famous footballer, it’s the norm.

While I would heartily endorse the whining cunty club stuff, I see the principle of “innocent until proven guilty” has taken another good kicking there. “Under suspicion” - not even charged at that point… but you still think he should have been suspended / banned / put in the stocks? Top pitchfork wielding there, Doc.

There may well be questions to ask about delays, but they should aimed at the CPS / Police. Or do you believe that every employer should act as investigator, prosecutor, jury & judge the moment anyone comes under suspicion, just n case they are guilty?

I concur with this. I make no judgement on this case, but not every professional footballer accused, or even charged, are guilty.

I think suspension, on pay, when charged is about the right balance. However even that can severely damage someone's wellbeing when a false accusation.

I appreciate the same, and more, can be said for the other party too.

This is an extremely difficult area. There are a number of things that we know. One is that rapes and sexual assaults are massively under-reported, and only a tiny fraction of cases eventually lead to charges. It is a fact of our society, and cause for great shame, that most women have been subject to some sort of sexual assault. On the other hand we know that celebrity attracts a disproportionate level of attention from loons and chancers.

The only fair approach is to have recourse to timely justice (justice delayed, is justice denied). Of course the processes that provide equality and justice have been intentionally defunded and irrevocably damaged by the tories*....for the simple reason that lack of recourse to justice for the ordinary man (woman, or other**), removes checks and balances and scrutiny, and means that those able to fund themselves (personally or as organisations) have the legal balance weighted in their favour.

You do not live in a true democracy if you are not equal under the eyes of the law (and we are not). As an aside you do not live in a true democracy unless there is a free and fair press providing objective scrutiny (and we do not).

    * "We are the party of business" is directly equivalent to "we are against the interests of ordinary citizens".

** Still not entirely sure how this works.

In a world of pretentious signings videos and strictly controlled corporate media, this is a proper old school football club video from Mansfield Town who are building a new stand:

    Mansfield Town's New Stand

    "That's a downpipe there. We've got a gutter now."

    Brilliant.

I thought they were getting the guy from Wednesday? O'Neil wouldn't be a bad choice.

O'Neil feels like an annoyingly good choice for them to be honest. Can only hope they hound him out before giving him a proper chance.

I will miss Barry’s infectious smile. It’s a bit of a Gueddy moment.
