I seem to recall reading a couple of weeks ago that Palace had the 3rd best defence behond Poo and Forest. I had hopes they might do something at Man City and Newcastle. What they've done is concede 9 goals in 3 halves of football.

Thanks for letting Newcastle fill their boots…

  • 16 Apr 2025, 8:32 p.m.

I've only just noticed Palace missed a penalty at 1-0.
    Fuck's sake.

Not quite sure why the arse keep sticking corners under the crossbar. I presume they've noticed that Courtois is a giant who can actually catch?

Great goal to score. Terrible goal they then concede. People wank off about Saliba but he’s has a few ricks in possession tonight

Yes....but for me the keeper should never have given him the ball there. All he had on was the first time hump.

....also, on the goal...don't get me wrong, because I'm delighted our garibaldi babies are humping franco's fascists, but Saka was clearly off from the initial flick on. This set of officials are so bad they wouldn't look out of place in the 'ship.

He wasn't off. Not even remotely. That was a lovely goal and well deserved. I did Chortle when Martinelli sprinted down the whole length of the field and score the winner too. Madrid look ordinary and Mbappe looks lost in that side. Oh well.

Congrats to the Arse. Declan Rice looked truly world class in those two ties. I think they might be knackered this weekend though. Hopefully they are not playing anyone we want them to beat.

As for the other game didn't watch it. Bloody Palarse all of sudden becoming pants when we needed them to frustrate.

    Chicago: Playing the odds.

Mbappe looks lost generally, because he just walks around and only turns it on occasionally (he caught late era Messi, a nasty affliction, from their time together at PSG). He built his reputation on terrific pace and finishing ability, and worked hard to get to the very top. Now the work is over, his brand is built, he's a stroller. Like what happened with Rashford.

The direct comparison tonight would be Martinelli...who with less ability, worked his arse off, and even without the goal, had a terrific game.

Good job deadlegs has best of breed, in the agricultural show, to fall back on to finally win a trophy. Bayern interred by Milan's.

Disagree. I thought Martinelli had a terrible game, the goal notwithstanding. Created very little, made bad decisions and coughed up promising possession several times. Sure, he won a few free kicks. I was begging for Trossard to come on to offer some control.

I suppose we are allowed to value work rate differently. He definitely coughed up possession a fair bit, but he worked hard to get it back then, and when he hadn't given it away. Modern football, played at pace, means the ball will be given away if you actually try to do something. Which he did. Then had enough still in the tank to run it in from the half way line after ninety minutes.

    You are a tough crowd.

The damage was being done by Saka and Odergard on the right flank and Rice through the middle. I don’t think Martinelli made any kind of breakthrough on his side despite his best efforts. It might therefore have been better to have someone who could retain (Trossard) to avoid the possibility of Madrid piling on pressure. He took the goal extremely well, even if the tie was done by then.

He’s going to get less change out of Hakimi and will have to track back better than he does to deal with PSG marauding flanks.

I agree, Rice, Odergaard and Saka were excellent and are their driving engines. Although you could argue Partey was the glue. I thought him and Rice were superb.

Arsenal when they are on are very difficult to beat. I wish them well in the champions League even if Arteta is a giant knob.

Interesting weekend coming up - City away at Everton and Newcastle at Villa on Saturday, then Chelsea at Fulham on Sunday.

Need two of Chelsea, Villa and City to not win in order for us to still be in the top 5 when we play. Obviously we want Newcastle to beat Villa anyway and then for Fulham and Everton to do as well as they can (feels two draws in those two is possible).

  • 17 Apr 2025, 10:17 a.m.

Oh, Villa need to win by ten to go above us. Which seems unlikely.

I had to read this twice before I got that you weren’t talking about Willian & wondering WTF he had to do with it…
