It's already a five point gap. They've got 17 points from 26 games. They probably need another 17 points to be safe - but from only 12 games. No chance.
Yeah, they spent something like 30M firing Ten Hag, paying compensation for Ashworth, paying compensation for Amorim, then firing Ashworth, all while they took away the weekly fifty quid bonus for Steward Of The Week, stopped funding the charitable foundation, and fired a bunch of club legends from their ambassadorial roles. Not sure they need the extra bad press of paying off Amorim as well.
I just spent half an hour looking at the Derby and Leicester boards and I honestly can't even summon up much schadenfreude, they're all so terminally miserable over their teams' plights and worse, they don't seem to be resenting us as much as resignedly accepting that we're currently in a different stratosphere to either of their clubs. Where's the fun in that if they can't even hate us?
Moneybags Utd dropping points to villa was probably the right result. Marcus Rashford when he wants to be is a Gazelle of a player. I am pretty sure he is going to be great for Villa. Which begs the question what the fuck are the scum playing at. Both Sancho and now Rashford are looking very good again. It must be grim up north.
Anyway, I think Europe is going to knacker our midland rivals so I wish them success on the continent.
It’s cyclical though, innit? All three clubs are roughly the same size (although no formula is needed to confirm we’re the biggest), so, in the long term, they’ll bounce around roughly the same place in the league (somewhere in the high teens/low 20s).
Enjoy it while we’re on top, cos soon enough it’ll be one of them.
Agreed. At some point, one of our stars will leave for a bigger club and that will trigger more departures. This side that we've enjoyed watching so much will be broken up and while we'll have plenty of coin to rebuild, that will be far from easy.
Those cunts down the A52 and A46 will be back at some point, while our stay in the top flight won't last forever (although hopefully we've got a few years yet).
