In a classic case of fucking about and finding out, a Sheffield Wednesday fan has today lost his job as a result of some pretty vile stuff posted on social media on Saturday after a WBA fan died in the stand at Hillsborough.
Having included in his bio on Facebook, the Twatter and LinkedIn that he worked for Wates construction firm (appears for 20+ years), the internet did its thing. Wates have announced in the past hour that he's no longer in their employ, and he's also been suspended from the Sheffield golf club where he is a member and former captain.
I guess the takeaway is that if you're inclined towards deliberate provocation online, and especially if you're dim enough to link it to the Hillsborough disaster, you're probably best not to have social media platforms with pictures of your family and full details of your employer. I suspect it was a tricky subject to broach with his wife over the past 24 hours. Good luck getting a new job, too.
