Or maybe Oxford is a step up from Derby these days.

Same standard of football, but less than 3% of it requires being in Derby. So yeah.

Is oxford the ground with the tree overhanging the back of the away end? I liked that.

Went once. Was early on in the Bassett promotion season and Bart scored for a 1-0 win.

Wifey and I were at that game. I was bellowing Silenzi’s name throughout the match. He had a blinder. Pity it was a false dawn but it was a bloody fine day all around.

Unless I am thinking of the leyton Orient game but I don’t think so. This was the FA cup correct?

    Chicago: Senile.

I watched a game from the press box at the old Oxford ground, I deputised for Brid when he was writing match reports for the OS. As you all know I am not a tall or large man, and even I was incredibly cramped. Not an experience I particularly enjoyed once the novelty of being a journo for a day had worn off.

I was there during one of the Platt seasons. (Cup game in the first season, maybe?) Lots of bickering on the terrace about him.

    Good curry afterwards, though.

I was there. The first one was snowed off so we went to Luton vs Fulham instead on the way home. Had to sit with the Fulham fans as home end was sold out. True story.

I only went to the old ground once when living in Oxford. I was part of a demonstration scrimmage just before the game as advertising for the American Football team I played for. The name of the team had recently changed from the Oxford Bulldogs to the (Unipart) Oxford Saints.

United were playing Southampton that night, so us wearing jackets emblazoned with ‘Saints’ meant we were relentlessly booed entering and leaving the ground.

Just looking up where the old (Manor) ground was, I discovered that Ron Atkinson holds their record for most appearances.
