Yeah but Watford and Norwich, who went down with Burnley, both failed to make the playoffs.

This transparent attempt to trick fate offers nothing - "we were told" - have a day off. Lets see what sort of summer they have before we got all gloomy, the wheels could quite easily fall off, then 2 or 3 tough opening games leaving them languishing towards the bottom in September, owner keeps banging on about FFP, fans start throwing their clappy sticks on the pitch, sack the board ringing out from the singing section, a couple of onbrand defaults on payments, 15 point deduction and it's Pride Park on an international break for the fairytale gang.

I think they've both just got bored of being promoted or relegated every season and wanted a nice quiet year off. (I haven't looked on message boards of either but I'm confident this will be the prevailing opinion.)

You can get fcuked. Fester are not coming back up. They are going to lose a lot of their core and be unable to get anybody in. I think they are in the poo.

I predict 10th or 11th. No fcuking chance of promotion.

Tielemanns confirmed his departure today, although that was widely expected. Could have sold him for a fortune a couple of years ago, now he's a Bosman.

They needed to retain their best talent in order to compete for Champions League football.

Freuler too IMHO. Ok, he didn't have a stellar season, but there's certainly worse about.

  • 1 Jun 2023, 4:07 p.m.

Freuler was a big part of why we struggled, IMO.

Leeds appear to be living in interesting times. Apparently their owner attempted to use Elland Road as security for a loan he needs in order to buy Sampdoria, but Elland Road is already security to an investment made by the San Francisco 49ers who are currently in negotiations to buy Leeds completely.

This is probably not helpful to their chances of hiring a new manager, revamping their squad, and getting promoted next season.

I thought he was a really useful leadership figure during that period when we got a bit of defensive solidity and we’d just started to turn the results around (Palace at home sticks in the mind). Ultimately though, he needed to be either more dynamic or more creative with his passing to keep his place in the team. He wasn’t exactly the sort of player I thought we’d signed.

I think Freuler would have looked like a better player if we were a more possession based team*. As we only had the ball for about 20 minutes every game, he isn’t the sort of player we needed (in any of the four iterations of the team). I don’t think he’s a crap player, just the wrong tool for the job. And I don’t think it’s fair to blame one player on our woes (unless you’re a Leeds fan).

    *like the goal against Citeh.
average time the ball was in play in a Forest game= 53.28m; average possession 37%.

Freuler is clearly an intelligent player. He reads the lanes well and closes down options and space for the ball carrier. He went through a little phase where he had clearly been told to actually get tighter and make some tackles and looked better for it, but he forgot about doing that after about three games and was benched shortly thereafter. Unfortunately he is not a good enough player to resist an opponent who does the same, he doesn't have the vision to play a progressive early ball even when the space and/or the run is there, which means he gets closed down quickly resulting in either a layoff or losing the ball. It might be that in Serie A players are given more time and space and he had the luxury of waiting for the game to open up around him, but he's clearly not cut out for the Premier League.

    Conductor my arse.

Read the Everton entry. What self-important twats.

Our away fans get a few mentions from other clubs which is nice.

Surprised Spurs said us. I was in the Spurs area for that game with @JRs_Cigarette and whilst the fans were decent, I can't really say they chanted the whole game and whipped the atmosphere or anything. We were so poor at the time that it felt like the fight was being sucked out of us.

I assume that must be the fastest goal in Cup Final history.
