@Ingo pretty much nailed my thinking too.

I regularly go to football in Australia and am always bemused by the people who think it’s real. So yes, there are different types of fan in the grounds and the makeup of them impacts the atmosphere. It’s just that going regularly might not be such an essential factor. After all, I’ve been a member at my beloved Melbourne Heart for eight years and I don’t sing the shit club song, or any other song, and whenever the keeper spills a dolly I laugh and wish I cared enough to call him a cunt.
I think you've just explained exactly what is happening at places like City.
It is literally City
Yes I almost edited to put Man in my post!
But if those tickets were available when we weren’t in the prem then it also follows that a lot of the people who DO have season tickets, and who create this atmosphere you wish to protect, are also only there because we are in the prem.
Maybe these fancy clubs with lousy atmospheres simply suffer because tickets are expensive and this means more people who are older and less opportunity for local rowdy kids.. and so Forest will inevitably go that way too if they become established.. even if nothing about the stadium changes. I mean, Jesus, can you even get on the wait list at Arsenal if you don’t run a hedge fund?
Mine too, and I’ve been going since 1967. The noise at the Chelsea game was the loudest I’ve ever known.
No, I mean Melbourne City is literally Man City!
Let’s not kid ourselves that we’re a special club with a special atmosphere.
Sure, the last couple of years have been better than ever, but there’s been a lot of jeopardy during those times. Once (if) we become the next Palace or West Ham, complacency will spread again and the CG / replacement stadium will be as quiet as the rest of them.
Enjoy it while it lasts.
Forest collapsed more spectacularly than most when COVID closed the doors, which is highly unscientific anecdata for our crowd being more influential then most.
I certainly find it believable.
On the much of the rest of your post I think we are broadly agreeing, boiling it down I'm just saying we will go the same way as the others.
On Arsenal you can, it something like £20-£30 to become member, which puts you on the list. I know as I joined to see if would get me a ticket for the Forest game first year we were up (it didn't).
Exactly, whichever way we go the atmosphere is likely to degrade from here.
As others have said the last 3 years are better than anything I remember when we were actually good.
Although Mary Earps might call you a fucking cunt at the top of her voice.
It's always annoyed me that players are penalised for giving the crowd some back. "Fuck off you twat" or flicking v's should definitely be allowed. One of my football friends once got a game called off at half time for laying out two spectators. That's probably a step too far...but if the crowd want excitement and real jeopardy, that's the way to get some.
Or, she could learn to catch and save everyone the grief.
I see that a clear penalty for Gordon, against manure, was completely overlooked by the officials and VAR. Oh ho! Another accident!
Add two more points to the manure ill gotten gains totaliser.
