Only trouble is, as regards the point you're trying to make, "deadlegs" Kane is on track to score more than Lewandowski and Haaland did in that league. It's almost as though, hey, he's world class after all and the hobby horse you're riding is only good for the knackers yard.

Or maybe just counting an individuals goals isn't a good measure of the ability of a team to win things?

  • 8 Oct 2023, 7:50 p.m.

It's a theory. But I'd happily bet if I was the betting sort that Bayern finish this season top, with more points than last and in the last 8 of the champions league. And that's where your analysis kinda breaks down. There's a reason that world class managers like Conte, Tuchel, [ahem, Southgate], Pochettino don't agree with you and it's not that you know more about football than they do.

  • 8 Oct 2023, 7:56 p.m.

As you well know, Bayern finishing top tells you next to nothing about an individual player. There is no analysis to break down. Merely an opinion that in terms of the way you might want to play, measuring an individuals goals tell you nothing about that.

So far teams Kane have been a part of have won nothing. He's gone to Munich for a tap in (at the back post, you might say). Let's see how he does, and how influential he is in those big games, against the top teams, where he traditionally goes missing because his skill set isn't a good fit for making the difference in those sort of games.

Lewy scored 43 BL goals in 34 games in 2020/21, breaking Gerd Muller's record set in 1972. I don't see Kane getting anywhere near that, although Bayern being not at the level they were under Hansi Flick won't help.

I think if you look at the players they have and what they can do and what they can't do, he is exactly what they need - I.e. a Lewandowski replacement. My only point really is they are a better team with him than they were before, and as well as scoring goals he is improving of Muisala, Coman and Sane. He and they are going to win trophies. As for Spurs, they have a new manager and a new style and a lot of other new players. They have started well, they may not stay there, but in any case it will be hard to causally relate any overall improvement if there is any to Kane leaving. Son is certainly playing better than he was but apart from last season (when he was poor) he and Kane were probably the best forward partnership in the league over the last few years.

  • 8 Oct 2023, 8:07 p.m.

Maybe not, but he has started better than Lewandowski did when he joined them so give him a chance. I think he will get 30 this season if he stays fit.

  • 8 Oct 2023, 8:07 p.m.

    They weren't.

You ignore Mr. Rave testimony the he isn't a Lewandowski replacement - except in another body in a forward position sense, when he isn't running away from the goal (not something Lewandowski is well known for).

They are pretty similar in their style, Lewandowski himself has even said that. Kane probably drops a bit deeper more often if anything, but both are obviously excellent in the box and excellent at striking the ball and hold up the play for nipper players who like to dribble around behind them.... whether that's Sterling or Son, or Sane and Coman. And both score shitloads of goals.

I assumed the main thrust was that Kanes old club are doing better without him and his new club are doing worse since he arrived. I then picked up a hint of I told you so. But if he's hired a US hitman in a leftfield but ultimately commendable effort to end Loose Women once and for all please accept my apologies.

  • 8 Oct 2023, 8:26 p.m.

How we have all changed, as we've aged, now wanting to shoot loose women.

Not an I told you so, but a conversation point...perhaps a pointer that a world class finisher, with great numbers, playing the full ninety every game, doesn't necessarily lead to the ultimate team performance.

  • 8 Oct 2023, 8:28 p.m.

He's scored more goals in his first 6 games than anybody in the history of the Bundesleiga ever, including Gerd Muller and Lewandowski. So this is a very silly debate at the moment. Come back in 3 months and we'll speak again when there may or may not be more empirical evidence to answer this question.

You seem to be good at stats.

    Statistics are not football.

  • 8 Oct 2023, 8:35 p.m.

Stats reflect reality better than irrational whims.

If we can't judge Kane on the goals he scores and the trophies he wins at his new club, and the accolades he is going to pick up on the way and the near unanimous praise from the most highly regarded football managers in the world, what do we judge him on? This reminds me of the bee Alan Green kept on his bonnet on David Beckham.

  • 8 Oct 2023, 8:40 p.m.

Kane scored 8 goals in his first 6 Bundesliga games. Stuttgart's Guirassy scored 10. So that's bollocks, innit.
Edit: That's this season. I presume you're talking about 1st 6 games ever.

  • 8 Oct 2023, 8:40 p.m.

The ten years when he's won fuck all, and the opportunity cost of the other players that haven't happened because of him?
