Get me an accountant!
Harborough v St Albans in the FA cup today, brother and nephew came up for it and were amongst the 200 St Albans fans in a crowd of 1092.
St Albans took the lead at the end of the first half and Harborough equalised in the 84th minute.
8 mins added time, it was still 1-1 in the 98th minute when Harborough seemingly got the winner. For St Albans to get a 100th equaliser. It wasn’t done there though as Harborough got the winner straight from kick off to win 3-2. And the Harborough sub who only played half hour got a hatrick.
Absolute scenes, and son was pleased to get a photo with the hatrick hero in the bar after.
Britt limped off after 20 mins.
Whenever you mention Harborough I am transported back to when I played cricket for The Langtons and played against Market Harborough, Kibworth, The Bowdens (little and / or great?) and (the gated road to) Gumley. Amongst others.
Must be about 40 years ago. Some fond memories, but fuck me what a long time ago.
Just remembered playing against Harborough's Ben Smith at roughly U16 level who went on to play professionally for Leicestershire and Worcestershire. Unsurprisingly he carted us everywhere in one game before we ran him out second ball in the return, they crumbled and we won. In proper cricket terms it was a bit like a minor county beating a first class side.
Sorry to interrupt the other club football thread with some random cricket memories. As you were.
Some of those have changed a bit since you’d have played them, Kibworth is a top class facility and think they are one of the best in Leics. Son has taken part in Great Bowden’s youth programmes and plays tennis there so know that well. Bit posh there, I blame the London types.
I seem to recall noticing that Leics Women have played some games at Kibworth (I think they even played Kent Women there) and getting the impression that it had replaced Harborough as the Grace Road alternative. Sorry, The Upton Steel something or other.
I still have a clear picture in my mind of what Kibworth's ground looked like, but not Harborough for some reason. I guess I played at Kibworth more, coming from an Oadby school side. And I scored the day my Dad played his last ever game, guesting for Kibworth aged 55. He opened the bowling that day with the guy at the other end aged 58. Probably one of the oldest bowling combos ever. I'm 55 now and gave up a far lower standard of cricket 10 years ago.
Tough football choices to be had today.
Do you want manure to win (never the correct answer), to help usher in the spurts implosion (always funny)?
Do you want the arse to stay strong to ultimately put shitty in their place (because the football authorities will almost certainly drop the ball on this), or Leed continue to buck the trend (being a welcome throwback to more traditional football values)?
Do you want Brentford put in their rightful place (third division), or do you still bear a grudge against vanilla for chucking spurts a lifeline so that they could dick us?
Is it possible for anyone not living there to care about ipswidge, foolham, blunderland, or briteones?
Which is more hateful, chelski, or bornmuff in the top flight?
Or are you in the 'fuck the whole shower of shit' camp, and off to non-league?
United, Leeds, Brentford for me.
I'm in the 'hope my Fantasy Football players do well before / whilst watching Bayern at 2.30' camp.
I think I am as well....of course that means I have an ever decreasing circle of teams that I can select from...because some things are just not worth the cost.
Well there goes my triple clean sheet so fuck the Arse.
Didn't put my leed defenders in for this one....so of course the two of them were on a combined 20 points....until the Arse defender that I did put in just scored.
Bayern concede the fast ever Bundesliga goal thanks to a Manuel Neuer clown show.
So glad football is back.
The ref ins the sunderland game is a 'special'. Clearly never seen a game of football before. Regularly getting in the way (for one sunderland move he was the most effective defender stopping an early cross coming in), appears not to know what a foul is. Nowhere near the play (when he's not interfering with it).
Honestly, they might as well have taken a lucky dip from one of the crowd.
Leicester 0 Peterborough 3 is not as pleasing as it was before I learned that Posh are managed by Robbie Savage.
As amusing as it obviously is, it will bring the Martin tenure to an end - which is a pity. It was properly toxic.
I think that makes it even more pleasing tbh. One of their exes putting the boot in.
