If he’d been refereed properly this season then penalties would’ve been his undoing a long time before today.

The day Gabriel and Virgil Van Dijk wrestle each other at a corner and both get booked the world might just end.
Which, in fairness, MGW normally does as well.
Southampton appear to have started using Marinakis as a media advisor: www.southamptonfc.com/en/news/article/club-statement-1st-june-2026
We aren't sorry we did it just sorry we got caught
I commend them for stopping short of "and everyone else does it anyway", because I have zero doubt that they do.
I don't think so, I just don't see the upside worth the risk
(Soton lost one and drew 2 of the three in the case. Guess you could argue they might have lost the draws without the intel but I'm not convinced).
Doubt that's the only times that they did it.
Anyway, advantage gained is not at all the point. They repeatedly did something that they knew was against the rules....however bonkers they are at times.
Agreed, I'm just not at all convinced everyone does it.
Sure. Never underestimate man's ability to be a perpetual dickhead.
As the old expression goes: if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying.
On that same topic: Southampton have said they won't fire Eckert as it's allowed, or at least tolerated, in Europe, and they claim that he didn't realise it was banned here.
If one were of a cynical nature one might be tempted to wonder if they'd rather let the FA ban him, allowing them to fire him for cause and save themselves the severance payment.
Didn't he only lose the games where they were spying? If they cut the cheating they'll be so far out in front the 4 points will be the subject of the classic "who give a fuck" ditty before you can say "you need a bigger tree, pal".
Pretty sure they could fire him for cause with what he's done (not knowing what is cheating is on him), I just think they want to keep him
The bits from the whatsapps do provide some support that they might have been. They don't feel like it's a routine occurrence with just the specifics that the manager wanted checked - they wanted specific information on each of the opponents (Oxford's formation under the new manager, Hackney's fitness and just the importance of the Ipswich game, combined with how close they were training). And it was all dependent on the Southampton guy being able to actually view the training (presumably if you wanted to spy on Forest, you'd have to bribe someone in one of the houses overlooking Wilford Lane).
