Reading deducted another point with three suspended for failing to pay wages. Chairman has to pay an amount equivalent to 125% of the monthly wage bill into an escrow account in the next 28 days, if he fails to do that or if they miss wages again between now and June 2024 the suspended penalty will be enforced.
Italian sports media is reporting that the Saudi League plans to ask UEFA to include them in the Champions League. On every level this is a shit idea that in a sensible world gets no consideration, but I have little doubt that the faceless suits of UEFA will $ee plenty of rea$on$ to con$ider it $eriou$ly.
Same rules that are supposed to stop owners buying insanely expensive shirt sponsorships. Which reminds me, I will be very annoyed if the club ever uses FFP as a reason why we couldn't buy / had to sell a player we really wanted, given I don't believe that no one at all wants to give us any money to sponsor our shirts.
A £6m shirt sponsorship deal (which i would have thought would be achievable) is a £30 million player on a 5 year contract. Pretty much Sangara if he would come.
I suspect the issue for us right now is less about having the money to buy players, and more that the kind of players we'd like to buy i.e. a little more proven at this level or its European equivalent are interested in, and interesting to, clubs with a little more top flight cachet than us. So we either have to do a really good job of selling the club and its ambitions to them, or pay through the nose. The other way is to keep finding players with the right ability and attitude and room for growth, such as Morgan and Taiwo, and build a similar model to Brighton's - which I presume is the reason for the club realising that Syrianos might have actually known what he was doing.
