How are Leicester big enough and selling enough shirts to dictate terms to JD sports?

    Quoted message:

UK-based sports and outdoor retailer JD Sports Fashion has generated total revenue of £10.12bn in fiscal year (FY) 2023, up from £8.56bn in FY22. For the 52 weeks ending 28 January 2023, the retailer's gross profit percentage was 47.8%, compared to 49.1% a year ago.

At a guess, given it was only a year or two after they won the League and their popularity was still high, they told JD that they'd restrict supply if JD didn't go along with them and JD saw sufficient volumes of sales through their retail outlets that it was worth sacrificing some online sales to keep the products in stores. But that's conjecture.

The Championship kicks off a week on Friday. It's probably because the last season finished a bit later due to the World Cup, but it feels like summer is only just getting started.

Getting started? It’s like October here.

But yes, way too early. Not a fan of football in august.

The Premier league summer series on sky sports, I am watching in the pub. It could be a great way to hit the league at 100% or as I suspect a great way to knacker your players.

Sheffield Wednesday have launched a scheme whereby you can buy a 10 year season ticket for between £5500 and £8000, the kicker being that the 10 years don't start counting down until the club get promoted to the Premier League. So essentially, every year they're in the League is a free year.

This is a somewhat intriguing offer, but feels like a bit of a desperation move. I'm not sure I'd trust it to be honoured long term.

So you could potentially pay £5500 and have a season ticket for the rest of your life? Am I reading that correctly?

If the holder dies at say 55 or something, you can bet that the relatives won't be telling the club and keeping the ticket going.

yep - and if they go up this year, they'll give you 12 years, or next season and they'll give you 11.
Otherwise, it's 10 years from promotion.
You can also apply to the club to transfer it to a different name, or get a pro-rata refund as a standard 10-year ticket if you die after a year or two.

The problem with those sorts of schemes is that if they have a significant take up, they've massively reduced their income for a long time.

Of course. It smells like a desperate move from an already very unpopular owner.

They've said it's strictly limited numbers...
You can also change your seat every summer (within the stand you've bought it for)
It does actually seems quite a good deal for fans who can afford it (no payment plan or credit options, it's a single payment) - a season ticket on the Hillsborough Kop this year is £595 for example.

Saw that next season will be the first since 1930/31 that neither Stanley Matthews, Peter Shilton nor Buffon will play a league game. Shame Buffon never played for Stoke (not for him, obviously).

Only two EFL games took less than 100 minutes this weekend.

If the players and officials are going to piss about so much, they should give up their half-time and just change ends and keep going. Fans have transport connections to make, and dinner engagements to keep. Selfish twats.

I wouldn't mind...but it's not like they even play 90 minutes as it is. The players keep sitting down, and the ref keeps chatting to their mates in the cupboard, and watching the telly.

The lot of them need a rocket up their arse.
