It's funny because the online vitriol from English fans about how they've been bankrolled to multiple promotions and don't deserve to be where they are does somewhat overlook the fact that as foreign owners go, Reynolds and McElhenney are right up there as about the most likeable and decent ones there are, their motives are absolutely clear and by football standards pure, and the money that has been poured into the club has been from legitimate sponsorship and commercial efforts that just happen to be orders of magnitude better than their peers due to the profiles and connections of said owners.

Putting aside my well established views on Welsh teams in the English leagues, I think the main problem is the legions of dumb Americans who have latched onto the team and now sites like Reddit are full of Brad, 15, lifelong Wrexham fan from Idaho talking about how they should probably sign Jack Grealish this summer because it's what he did in FIFA25 and he won promotion with 120 points.

Wrexham the traditional football club, is a fine institution. I'm not mad about the financial doping from foreign owners, but it's a town that lives and breathes football, so they probably deserve a bit of a break from the relentlessly grim. We are actually aligned to Bangor 1876, the community phoenix club that rose from the dissolution of the historical bangor city after the intervention of an asset stripping property developer. Bangor city being where SSC played most of his football (as well as being on Wrexhams books of course). Unfortunately relegated to the third tier of welsh football this season. We'll be back! Bangor and Wrexham are not so far apart.

If you are in football for the community and tribal aspects, probably best to align with something that means something to you. If you are in it for the branding and the media exposure, choose a rich winning club. Unfortunately football has become more about the latter than the former. Which I lament. Wrexham are interesting, because they are the former, with a sprinkling of stardust (and money), to provide a 'story' for their 'journey'. There are people there, and some elements of the new, that are totally honourably about their football intentions...and there are those for whom it's just a monetisable marketing project. It's a textbook example of stealing a community institution, while pretending that you aren't...and there's definitely both good and bad in it. In the real world not everything polarises simply into angels and demons.

In the League of Arse countries, Wales and USA are right up there.

Which therefore propels Wrexham into the football one. Fairytale my arse.

I realise getting inside the Scouse mond is not something mere mortals can understand.

But they seem to be simultaneously really angry that Trent is leaving and also calling him lazy and untalented.

Someone posted two amusing side-by-side videos on the soshuls the other day. The first one was a rant from Jamie Carragher about fans being unfairly criticised for getting angry at Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving. It was along the lines of: "Liverpool's a special club... we're unique... you couldn't possibly get it... don't you dare tell us how to feel about Trent', etc.

The second one was a clip of Jamie Carragher on TV a few months earlier telling fans of another club (yes, you've guessed it) how they should be feeling about a certain situation.

Super Sam Surridge scored both Nashville goals in a 2-1 victory over TFC.

Yeah, I've enjoyed the documentaries - even the other half, who's hated football since Swindon away in the rain in 2006, has watched and enjoyed them.
I'm just annoyed they picked Wrexham and not someone like Hartlepool or Carlisle - then Wrexham could have faded away and taken their rightful place in the Cymru League. (of the last two Welsh teams in the English non-league system, Colwyn Bay joined the Welsh League a couple of years ago, while Merthyr were seriously considering it last season, but fans voted no and they went on to win promotion to the National League North).

The Championship will be an interesting test as it could be when the money beats the story. But they have hit all the right notes so far.

That said I am delighted for Sunderland. That is a real football community, they are bonkers for football there and I have an affection for the poor sods who were in that documentary but genuinely loved their town and their club.

I'm not against Sunderland coming up. Quite like the idea even. Potentially a new away ground if I can get a ticket. The fans are indeed crazy for it. Proper club. But my god their playing squad looks MILES off. They were very fortunate to beat Coventry, and then again to beat United. I fear for them a bit. I don't suppose they have a crazy rich owner do they?

Just noticed that Charlton won the League One play-off final yesterday, which means that obnoxious little shit Nathan Jones back in the Championship.

Could have posted it in 'What's annoying me' but then realised I don't give enough of a shit.

Means Derby and Leicester get to enjoy him. So it's not annoying me in the slightest.

They also get to "enjoy" Heckingbottom at Preston and Wilder at Sheff Utd. What's not to like?
