Good to see the Championship officiating hasn't gotten any better since we left

The ball comes off 28's right hand to 18's foot. Aren't those supposed to be automatically disallowed, regardless of intent? Maybe it just took the referee a second to process that fact.

Never blew at the time, they celebrated and got back ready for kick off before it was then disallowed and apparently the official reason given is offside despite the flag never going up at any time.

On the bright side Derby still lost which is the important thing

Pompey win tonight drops Derby to 21st, one spot above the relegation places, and one point clear of 23rd.

Plymouth are 6 adrift at the bottom but if Hull or Luton or ideally both can put together a little run of form, Derby could be in trouble.

Isn't a chunk of their loss loan interest on the money the Glazers borrowed to buy the club?

There's been a lot of spending on players (crap) and managers (crap). Still, it's been worth pushing the boat out so that they can stay within (checks table) 18 points of the mighty Nottingham forest.

I think history tells us that the important thing about turning around a failing football club, is to push all the financial hardship on to the admin staff, former club legends, and the fans.

Welcome to the ship, and all who sail in her.

There's a rumour that van Nistelrooy has threatened to walk due to the board not being willing to back him in the transfer window.

That would be a right result for them, as if he walks now it mitigates against them having to pay him off.

If I was RVN I would encourage them to think about all the stuff I could do to make them wish they gave their backing....or dish out a sacking.

He could have a two's-up with SSC rolling on a bed covered in all their lolly.

Counterpoint: walking now and blaming it on the board not doing their job properly might be the best way to preserve his reputation as a manager, which wasn't bad before this. Unlike SSC, van Nistelrooy is already a super rich guy from his playing career so the payoff is probably less important.

Counterpoint counterpoint: Nobody has their mind made up about RVN as a coach yet, and nobody in their right mind will be judging him on the back of this spell at Leicester. However, or whenever, it ends.

RVN hasn't expended his chances (unlike Rooney), and is a big enough name to get some good opportunities. The only way he gets an immediate return to the 'ship is if leicester goes well. Leicester isn't going to go well for anyone right now.

That's fair, but his stock after his spell in the Netherlands and then a few games as Man U caretaker was reasonably high; he might reasonably be of the view that nothing that happens at Leicester now will do anything but erode it, and it's best to get out before any real damage is done.

Back to the Man U thing, they're sending Antony on loan to Real Betis who will be picking up most of his wages.

Presumably means they won't be trying to get Moreno?
I've not really watched him, but surely Antony can't be as bad as he seems?

I can't tell you how bad he is, but I can tell you the bunch of factors that have conspired to get him in fish out of water territory.

Modern elite (protected financially) football clubs have this idea that it doesn't much matter how much you maximise the squad..... Because you are so far ahead of your direct local competitors that you can just get elite youngsters, develop them, sell them for more money, and still retain your protected position.

This is a business level decision, based on stats, more than on football. Now a football person knows that you need a core dressing that knows the level, have appropriate standards to instill in new recruits, and provide those soft coaching pointers (normally delivered hard) to compliment the formal tactical and man management at the coaching level.

So coming into a piss weak group, off the pace of the level, with a coach who knew where he was coming from but still not acclimatised to where he was landing, he brought his one major physical attribute and one pattern of play. Which really didn't fit what that team needed at all to succeed.

Is he completely useless? No. Has he adjusted to the level? No. Does the team he has landed in have the knowledge to improve him, and use his attributes? No.

It was always likely to be a bit of a disaster. Manure are still playing old school football badly, and not much has gone right in a decade. What was anyone hoping for from the kid?
