Now Casemiro has the entire goal gaping from 8 yards out and no defender anywhere near, and misses wide by a good yard. They are astonishingly poor.

Dunno. But if you haven’t got any wingbacks and try to play with them you’ll either lack width going forward or be exposed at the back (or, more impressively, both). And playing two central midfielders in their early 40s and trying to get them to play box to box is brave.
