I'd be starting Watkins with those players, I wouldn't want someone dropping deep. I'd want someone quick and mobile who could finish. Watkins all day for me, won't happen though.

Midfield of Rice (holding), Ward-Prowse (No 8) and Bellingham (No 10) for me, behind a front three of Foden, Saka and one of Rashford/Sterling/Watkins (at a push Sancho/Hudson-Odoi) for me - the pace, skill. creativity and finishing of that front three and Jude should cause any team problems.

One problem for the England manager is that, if and when you lose, if you didn't pick Kane then you'll get the sack.

Hasn't Southgate said this is his last tournament? Good time to give it a whirl, if so. (Although there's an argument that Graham Taylor's reputation never recovered from subsituting a crocked Lineker in 92.)

Brand Kane. A lot of the England brand marketing hangs on him, and pushing the notion that he's a world class shoo in.

I haven't even got started on the lack of wisdom in making him, or any striker, captain. But here we are.

I'd definitely look to get him in the squad, but for me it's TAA shoehorned in somewhere for his range of passing with the ball in play. It's extraordinary, and amongst the very best that I've ever seen.

I've actually softened on him a little this season, I still think he's pretty mediocre but he has his qualities. Nowhere near the England team for me, obviously.

Sterling deserves a place in the England set-up far more than Maguire and Phillips, both on club and country form.
I want pace, flair, creativity, movement and finishing from my front three, which they all offer. (although I did forget Palmer and Bowen).

My current England team, seeing as we're doing this, in a 4-2-3-1:

    Pickford

    Walker
    Stones
    Dunk
    Shaw

    Rice
    Gallagher

    Foden
    Bellingham
    Saka

    Watkins

Players on the edge of selection: Reece James, Cole Palmer

I'd like the above replaced with others, but not quite sure who I admit. Palmer instead of Gallagher perhaps, though they're very different players.

I think the full backs you removed are easily replaced by younger players in James and either Chilwell or Colwill, but we don't have an obvious candidate for centre-half. Maguire has actually been pretty good for United this season, but next up for me is probably Ben White.

In the defensive midfield role I've been impressed with Gallagher this year, I think he's really grown well after a challenging start in a very messy side. I like Palmer very much but you're not playing him in the pivot.

James is crocked, as usual, and hasn't played since early December, so would be massive risk to plan for the summer tournament on the assumption of him being involved. Especially in a position where we've got plenty of strong options.

Agreed. And Kyle Walker is still an outstanding player who at 33 is still faster than pretty much anyone else in the game.

My issue with Walker is that he seems to be a grade A cunt.

If you're picking a squad based on players you'd like your daughter to meet, it's not going to be much of a contender.
