Yes very poor second half. Isak running riot. Not quite sure why we fell apart so easily. A very un-Forest performance.

Nuno could have firmed up the midfield as it was going missing. They could have had oodles because after they went ahead our discipline was non existent.

But fair play to Newcastle. They were better and deserved the win. A big crash down to earth just in time for Arsenal.

Oh well. Bad days at the office for MGW and CHO Yates was fine. Dom was good until he got kicked and then was a bit rubbish. I could see the Joelinton goal from a mile off. Bad defending. Murillo was amazing in the first half and very patchy in the second. Bit of a bugger that as we were winning and usually make teams pay when we go ahead.

    It happens.

    Chicago: Not totally crest fallen.

    Ridiculous behaviour.

Chicago's take on the game is unusually correct, I agree with pretty much everything in his post. CHO in particular was way off the pace today.

Newcastle always give us problems, their midfield is big, strong and athletic and we never seem to be able to impose ourselves on them. When Elanga got Burn booked early on I thought we'd have a fun afternoon going at him but he did really well after that, Elanga didn't have a bad game but Howe did a great job of making sure that they doubled up on him and just let him run into dead ends.

I'm not too upset about the result, it was pretty fair. We're obviously not a Champions League quality team over 38 games, but I don't see any reason why we can't finish in the top third and have a fair shot at the Europa Conference or whatever the fuck it's called these days. I think we're every bit as good as Moyes's West Ham team that did it a couple of seasons ago.

I’m not that worried. But it’s the first of a series of tricky games.
The frustrating thing is that it’s always the case with Newcastle that they always out power us in midfield. And we didn’t really do anything about it (tactically)

There is a big group of teams that are very similar in quality and with luck we could top that group and get a European place or with bad luck we could prop it up and finish about 12th or 13th. It is considerable progress for us either way.

Today was a good game but their quality in the second half was just too much, they use the ball brilliantly and found space between our midfield (which had a bad day) and defence.

Everyone seemed to be a bit off it today. Lots of misplaced passes. And got caught on the break for the last two goals is less than ideal.

Needed Morgan to drop deeper to shore up the midfield where we were just outnumbered.

  • 10 Nov 2024, 6:24 p.m.

Yep, we seemed wide open today every time they turned over the ball. Not sure if that was because they were simply better through midfield or if there was a tactical nuance (would need someone with more of an eye than me for that stuff).

Still, doesn't make Forest's start to the season any less excellent. We shouldn't forget that Newcastle have been doing this Premier League lark a lot longer than us.

I talked about how within a minute of watching the last game I could see that we would get a result. today was the other thing. We immediately lacked the focus, were not checking our positions, looked lethargic, missed the first pass, had a couple of touches, and then hit the second pass worse than an early first pass would have been. Didn't make ourselves open so the man on the ball was short of options, looked long but played long in such a way that the target was almost always second best. No 7/8 out of tens today, 5/6's if we are being generous. Distribution (timing and choice) utter dogshit today. We looked like a fireside rug, ready to be walked all over.

Scoring first meant that we could have got something out of the game, but in general play we were attritioned all over all game, and the failure of the referee to uniformly and consistently apply the laws of the game meant it was always going to be one of those days.

The keeper made a couple of decent saves (it's their job) but his atrocious distribution cost us so many phases of play, possession, and pressure against today.

Some folk giving Elanga a hammering. I thought he was one of our better players.

    There are always some folk.

  • 10 Nov 2024, 8:06 p.m.

Yeah he got a bit of stick where I was sitting today, despite others deserving it more (that is assuming you need to moan at anyone). Quite a few players had off days today -
i can't recall MGW playing that badly for us before. Aina had a difficult afternoon. CHO also. But we lost to a good side. And if we have to settle for the Europa league, it's fine, it'll be easier to get away tickets

What are the odds on Wood not scoring again before Christmas?

  • 10 Nov 2024, 9:02 p.m.

    Ooh, dark humour.

They couldn't keep giving Nuno touchline bans, so instead they came down hard on him with the highest sanction they have. Manager of the month.

  • 10 Nov 2024, 9:36 p.m.

Did nuno or someone on our bench get booked today? 30 secs or so after jota got pulled down by Burn. Sure I saw the ref show a yellow but we couldn't see who at.

  • 10 Nov 2024, 9:40 p.m.

It was for the goalkeeping coach. Can't remember his name.

  • 10 Nov 2024, 9:40 p.m.

Yea someone on the bench, not Nuno but not sure who.
