That sounds fucking great. I would like to do it. I have many clients who have either done the train or done the walk and loved it. The elevation is high when you fly into the area so Coca tea is required. Wifey has her 50th birthday holiday but has not told me where we are going which is very aggravating. I hope to do this sometime. Anyway

    Enjoy..

A friend of mine, Argentinian/British, we were housemates at uni in Nottingham, left university and went to South America. He was a tour guide in Cuba for a while, has stories of the girls of Havana that would make your tales of midlife love in Vancouver seem mundane, even to Jim. He did, for a while, tours of the Inca trail, and the Galapagos. He's now a travel agent specialising in South America. I've sent him a message, I'll message you with anything he comes back with.

That would be awesome, thank you.

Chic, I believe my friend Piet who currently lives in Taipei may come. You're very welcome to join us.

I've done it Russ. I'll come back to you.

Edit: although Jake will be a lot more use.

Turns out I won't. He's a bit more specialist than I thought, just Patagonia nowadays.

Winter holidays, I've heard tricky is big on them. Sorry @Russ.

In Peru there are 2 options for KFC, regular or extra crispy and there is a market selling DVDs including Trophy Whores and Double Anal Dreams II. For christ sake don't drink the tap water.

@Russ I went in 2007 so my memory isn't great and there probably isn't a lot that's relevant (or aged well). I did a guided walk, sherpas carried the tents, cooked meals etc. The altitude was noticeable but wasn't really that oppressive, a couple of fat American girls struggled and they had to get donkeys to carry them but otherwise everyone was fine. The site is well worth the visit and be sure to climb the 'little' mountain at the far end. I was away for the year and it was in the top 3 of things I did. Our group was a mix of people on holiday and backpackers and the tour was bookended by hotel stays. You don't need malaria jabs as there isn't any risk at that altitude. I imagine if it's a package transfers would be part of that but if not then South America was a chaos I wasn't prepared for, obviously you'll need some Spanish and an understanding of the good/dodgy areas of town would be useful. It's a continent you may well only visit once so if you've got the time and resource then I'd suggest going nuts. Football in Buenos Aires is something excellent, and there's fuck loads of it, I'll avoid the talkback clichés about Bolivia but Le Paz and cycling the Yungas road* in particular were highlights. I never went to Brazil or Columbia but apparently both were excellent for tits.

*Also top 3, the other was climbing Ayres rock.

I did the Inca Trail in 1999, the longer walk... It was amazing, but I imagine the organisation is all different now.

There's a photo of me at the top in a forest shirt somewhere, pre-digital.

I had an England shirt with Psycho 3 on the on the back. Planning your photo wardrobe is indeed key.

Edit: Russ, I've still got the shirt, I'll post it over to you if you want.

I'd be concerned the bottom of it will get really dirty as it drags along the ground.

It's ingo's. I'd be more concerned about the condition it's going to be starting in, if I was Russ.

Still it's clear that he's not thinking straight already. Given that his idea of a holiday is to walk a long way, up a tall wet and windy hill, and be cold and short of breath at the end of it. I say 'end'. I imagine the idea is to return back to civilisation, with normal facilities, access to food and drink, and healthcare if needed. Not everyone does though.

You miserable twat. I climbed Kilimanjaro with some friends in a major storm and visibility for approx 6 inches. It was -30 and it was one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had. I fucking loved it. I even have pictures of us with icicles hanging off us. Fantastic. Russ if i can swing it i would love to go. I have always wanted to go to Peru. I have also heard the Sacred Valley is not to be missed. Just to upset Tricky I am going to try and join this trip. If you are planning on going elsewhere after Peru then I probably won't have the time but Ingo is right, watching football at Boca Juniors in Bueno Aires is a pretty unique experience.

Wifey's 50th birthday trip has taken a turn. I think she is abandoning Europe and wants to do Puerto Rico or Panama. I have friends in Panama so I would be up for that. I have always wanted to go to Peru and to Chile to see the stars in the Andes. All of this is going to enrage Tricky so it's on the agenda because we travel just to give him a myopic headache.

Send me a timeline of when you would want to do this... Wifey turns 50 March 21st. I suspect our trip will be somewhere around there. If you are going later then boom you will have a snoring traveling companion. (I would suggest separate tents..).
