If you are on a very long flight on a domestic airline like American or United going abroad, the cattle class is very crowded. Also the business class can stretch you out and you can sleep with ease. We love it.

And yes even at 5ft 8" (ish) I feel cramped in the back of the plane. Long flights , the posh areas are a must really. Domestic we can take the slight inconvenience of cramp for 3 ish hours.

    Chicago: First class passenger.

I guess there doesn't seem to be a holiday thread anymore? Anyway, if there is search couldn't find it. Hardly mundane but Zion was lovely apart from the fact that the person who almost fell of a mountain wasn't me...

There were two couples on this trip and the blokes took the challenging hike up Angel's landing which wasn't that bad until I got to the top of the chains and was standing on the mountain looking at sheer 1500 ft drops on either side. My mate Ed has a bit of a cruel sense of humour as he told everyone at the top that I didn't like heights (which is true) but wanted to do some daring photo's to prove I could handle it (which is not true). Hence lots of people offering to hang off the side with me for a photo. I told them all to sod off as I was having a bit of vertigo.

Anyway, the burds took a different hike and wifey lost her bearings whilst in a conversation with some other people and she slipped and stumbled backwards and a Dutch bloke grabbed her and pulled her to safety before she fell off a cliff. Not as high up as us but just as deadly.

When all got down to meet up (no good cell service) , she waited 20 minutes into our stories before announcing that she was 6 inches from death. So casual. The other gal Laurie looks at her and says, "I thought you weren't going to tell him about that?". My wife shrugged and said, ":Well anyway i should be dead so you should appreciate me more". The way she said it was horrifyingly casual and it just proves that I cannot take her anywhere. She was making fun of me in Costa Rica a few years back whilst we were WHite water rafting expecting me to fall. in when she did instead and almost drowned.

It ain't boring but jeez, buuuuuurrrrds. You can't take 'em anywhere!

    Chicago: Still in One Piece.

Meeting finished early so on 16:06 instead of 18:something which means no need to change at Peterbollocks. Which is nice.

Is partridge on for the game? I'll be able to catch at least 3 of our goals.

    What?

  • 6 Nov 2025, 4:54 p.m.

    Yes.

Is there a more mundane road in England than the A50? It goes on and on and on for ages and after all that you end up in Stoke.

Yes, I am heading to the north West tomorrow. What of it?

  • 19 Nov 2025, 9:23 p.m.

I see your A50 and raise you an A14.

  • 19 Nov 2025, 9:28 p.m.

Single carriageway in some places, isn’t it? So at least you get the chance of a bit of overtaking.

  • 19 Nov 2025, 9:32 p.m.

I'm a big fan of the A50...nice quiet, fast road, that helps me access a number of places that I regularly choose to go to for recreational purposes.

I think the mistake that you are making is staying on it. To stoke.

  • 19 Nov 2025, 9:37 p.m.

I agree, much better than the main north/south arteries A1,M1, M6. Dual carriageway all the way and never over busy and the good thing about Stoke is its actually very easy to drive straight through it, stopping at only one set of traffic lights, to much nicer places.

  • 19 Nov 2025, 9:37 p.m.

It's a horror show. Takes you from the M1 south of Leicester all the way to Suffolk if you want, or need, it to. Ipswich away is awful by car for this reason.

The same fucking road just goes on forever. The A50 links probably 50-ish miles between junction 24a and Stoke - A14 must be at least double that.

  • 19 Nov 2025, 9:40 p.m.

Scenery changes on all of those, the A50 is monotonous. Agree that putting a massive dual carriageway through Stoke is one of the greatest bits of town planning ever implemented.
