I have a fire, television, and electric light anecdotes. This thread is made for me. Happy days!

The man whose house is seemingly built out of wire. Of course there’s an anecdote or two.

I was selling a house a couple of years ago and thought that the blind in the front room wasn’t sufficient so decided to put up some curtains too.
I drilled a hole in exactly the right place only to discover that a previous owner had decided it was also exactly the right place to drop in some extra wiring to the bedroom above.
After I finished vibrating I heard a whooshing sound. Said noise was emanating from the kitchen which was now under an inch of water.
Turns out me drilling into the wires had caused the circuit to short, which was badly earthed to the stopcock in the kitchen, which had in turn blown the pipe which was buried two feet below the kitchen floor.
Turned the supply off in the street and £2000 later it was all sorted.
I never did put the curtains up.

A bloke I know once tried to short out his street by bridging the feed into his house. I saw the whole thing live from a safe distance.

Off to Notts tonight. I'm not sure I've ever enjoyed a Gillingham game.

Last game of the Meggoo relegation at homo. I think. We were down already, but we took them with us.

PA played 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams'.

It was enjoyable as I think we (as in the area in T3 where I used to sit) had long since accepted our fate, were glad the season was over and, mostly, about to out and get really fucking drunk (in the days when that was still enjoyable).

    Marlon Mk2 scored?

    Yes. A right Thunderbastard IIRC.

Which obviously upset his old mates.

    Obvs.

I was head of the rescue committee but my heart wasn't in it.

I got zapped as a kid in a similar way, lamp post with broken panel. I (5 at most) told my mates I could fix it.

I came to as they were dragging me home. Screaming with hands full of blisters.

Turns out the life of a sparky wasn’t for me.

    Cheesy peas. Sounds awful.
My friend’s assistant put his Facebook update that day as “rumors of my demise have been exaggerated. My heart only stopped for a minute.”
Gave us all quite the start.

Did you have a seemingly unquenchable thirst afterwards? Apparently common after people have been struck by lighting/electrocuted.

My only memory is the positive can do attitude being rewarded with burnt fingers.

That and my dad getting on the phone to the council to fix it. Something I seem to have inherited.

Mrs BW due to collect her new car today but VW have messed up the paperwork and apparently their finance team doesn't work weekends, which surprised me.

Anyhow, looks like it will be Monday instead, so no harm done.

I have a lovely old ping anser putter, with the sort of vintage patina that is sought after.

Polished it up with t-cut so that it looks nice and shiny at address.

Anyone have a suggestion for recycling ink cartridges?

I have loads of empty ones that are almost all already reconditioned ones and googling I'm not sure if anyone recycled them?

Also have some unused (recycled) ones from previous printer that no longer works.

They are all Canon inkjet if that makes any difference.

Go here. Add the postcode of the area that you wish to recycle the printer cartridges. Click "Check" and scroll down to a list of local places that accept cartridges for recycling. Ignore any ethical questions about whether they are actually recycled, having nominally done your bit.

A local charity might collect them?

A lady in the village collects them to be recycled and is given money which is put towards upkeep of the green.

I’ve got about 10 in a bag in the kitchen and have been meaning to drop them off for a couple of years but just keep adding to the bag instead.
