Offer accepted yesterday, views over the River Wye. Needs a little work but will make a lovely family home.

Solicitor instructed this morning, they got back to me this afternoon, I replied with all requests complete this evening. Let's watch the solicitors slow it all down now.

Are we talking about @RC's toilet habits still?

Finally hit my target weight yesterday.

Have spent all afternoon planning a pub crawl.

After 18 months of using free bet credits to place Shady's on the football, extracting £5-10/month, Bet365 have emailed me to tell me I am no longer able to access their promotions.

Looks like I need another betting company. Any of the others just as generous?

This is how betting companies work. If you beat them, they will hunt you down, and shut you down. If you lose to them, they will assist you in your losses, extending credit and encouraging you, not just until you have lost your house, job, and car....but preferably until you have lost your shirt, trousers, family, and everything monetisable as well.

    Nothing personal. Only business.

We are the government of business.

There are very few vices I have tried and not fallen in love with, but I don't get betting. It carries zero excitement for me and makes the experience of watching sport worse, because you end up wanting the wrong things for the wrong reasons.

They did that to me too.

    I'm now with Sky Bet.

Betting and cards for me. Had friends that were all in (forgive the pun) on Hold ‘Em, etc. and I could not get my head around it.

I like poker, it fits my ethos. You can play the man and the ball.

Anything where you are playing the house, or the bookie, is a long term loser, and not that interesting to me.

Hmm. I kind of get what you mean. I think I enjoy the challenge of trying to make as much as I can. Slowly over time.

Think your mistake was trying to take it out. If you'd just let it accumulate, and made the odd 'normal' bet you'd have been fine. Then just take it all out in one whack at some point.

I really like playing cards, I can sit at a blackjack table for hours and I love playing poker but I have absolutely no problem with setting an amount I'm willing to lose and then walking away when I have. In Vegas at least, if you pick the right casino and aren't a terrible blackjack player, you can generally drink enough free alcohol to make your losses relatively minimal.

I went to Vegas and dropped a small fortune (for me, anyway) over a few days but it was entirely on booze and posh dinners. I think I gambled at most a couple of hundred bucks in a similar way, just to get some cheaper drinks. Blackjack’s not too bad. Poker is some arcane stuff I simply can’t get my head around.
Any time I’ve played cards with friends in my life I’ve felt like the odd one out in the Go Johnny Go Go! sketch from The League of Gentlemen.

I could have gambled big in Vegas in the 70s. Walking down the Strip with a mate. Flashy soft top pulls up alongside. Beautiful white girl in a black dress in the front. Beautiful black girl in a white dress in the back. They ask us if we’d like to party. My mate went to get in. But being a world weary 22 year old, I told him they were hookers. Or possibly something more dangerous. Anyway, we declined and they drove off with a “what’s the matter, don’t you like to fuck?” thrown out as a parting message. I’ve always wondered if I should have gambled. Probably not… but you never know do you?
