Happy New Year!
I'd made an early start on being alcohol free in January 2024, not having a drink from the 27th until 31st. New Years Eve someone poured me a wine, which got me going. Never mind, I said to myself, I'll start on January 1st, like most normal people.
January 1st, went to the Co-op. On sale, 4-packs of Goose Island IPA and Vocation Life & Death Classic IPA at £1.97 and £2.03 respectively. So I did the decent thing and bought the lot. Cheers, Co-op.
First game of the new year last night, after a couple of weeks ill over Xmas. Tank completely empty. My legs. Were dead.
Doing not drinking largely because we're a bit skint. Picking up the running and gyming to distract myself from the unending misery of sobriety. Mind you, grew my own weed for the first time evs with some reasonable success and have about a years supply in Kilner jars so that takes the edge off.
Got a new coffee grinder. It’s called the ‘Ode Brew’ which probably isn’t because it was named by someone from Nottingham, but it could be.
Good choice marra.
Was this a factor in purchasing?
Cracking set of burrs on it.
Is that where you poor the Nescafe in?
No. The nescafe drinkers.
Had a 'debate' with the ticket checkers at the St Pancreas gateline.
Son and I use Family and Friends Railcard, with an adult and child ticket. He is 16, so not a child.
Gate staff were initially insistent he needed an adult ticket. I told them no you can still use the family and friends Railcard with a child ticket if child turns 16 whilst Railcard is till valid. This ends when the Railcard expires or child turns 17 whichever is the sooner.
Various guys were consulted and all said I was wrong. I said it is on the National Railcard FAQs, which I then googled, they read and agreed with me child ticket was fine.
I did say to one of the guys isn't that something you should know and to be fair he said yes, but you can't know everything. I laughed with him and left, rather than saying "not asking you to know everything but knowing the rules when railcards can be used seems a fairly necessary part of your fucking job".
I presume this part is a mistake, rather than a humblebrag monologue of your villainy?
No he is not a child if travelling alone, but if travelling with an adult under a F&F Railcard he is still classed as a child until day before 17th birthday.
No villainy it's just the rules.
So he’s not to leave the room, even if you come and get him.

"Both child and not a child" was the Epstein brand wasn't it?
