Alan Nixon is a football journalist (ex-Sun, I think) who peddles transfer gossip on the socials - reasonably well followed.
A couple of days ago, he seemingly became aware of a solitary tweet from what looks like a Sheffield Wednesday supporter, posting under the acronym 'South Stand Pies' with a picture of a pie as the avatar. The tweet, which looked to have been written in jest, suggested Nixon was recieving a grand from the club every time he posted some PR guff supportive of their position.
Nixon launched into full-on legal attack, demanding this person's name and address - saying lawyers would be getting involved, etc. It went on all day yesterday and by late on, the account had gone from a handful of followers to more than 8,000 - with people gleefully watching on and sharing all the back-and-forths. It began to trend on the Twatter.
Classic case of the Streisand Effect.

I'm sure it's fascinating to a niche audience, but it can't see it having got widespread coverage back in the 'only three TV channels' days.
It's amazing the ephemeral crap that will gather peoples attention when they are not equipped to understand the actual thing. I was just reading a lot of opinion on using 'data' in football. A real lot of opinion. Largely from people who appeared not to really understand what 'data' actually might be.
