Last month was a record for us in terms of turnover and profit. Im seeing different indicators to what im seeing in the gloom press. My esteemed and much smarter colleage suggests we measure the wrong things in terms of GDP and dont measure the circular economy.

It's quite remarkable seeing how things are reported under the current government versus the extraordinary behaviours, and catastrophic consequences of them, were reported under previous governments.

Propoganda. Like advertising (and SEO). Works.

As someone who sells SEO, SEO, is no longer SEO.

Looks like a car drove into a house at the end of our road. This being AoNZ, it went straight through the wall into the living room even though the car was a Suzuki Swift.
    No-one hurt, apparently.
Multiple police cars and an ambulance and a fire engine, so it must be a slow night

Chaps came to deliver and install a new oven this morning. Turns out it needs more amps than than the whole house currently has available, so they took it away again.

Moved to the Bush, infrastructure is probably from the 1920s.

I have a feeling there may be a Talkbacker currently living in NYC (Muswell?) and aware that many of you will know the city pretty well.

We're tentatively thinking of booking a trip with Little Miss BW early next year and wondered if anyone had recommendations for areas/hotels to look at? We'd obviously be out most of the day so looking at something at the more reasonable end of the scale.

We were there nearly 15 years ago and stayed in 58th Street close to the south end of Central Park which was a decent location from memory, but obviously further from the southern end of Manhattan.

Sorry BW can’t really help you here, I do visit the city fairly regularly but thats mostly for work, I’m based in Rhode Island, 1hr south of Boston.

From the times we visited with our daughter, we always stayed close to Central Park.

I always stay around midtown for work as office is there. It's easy to get around on subway wherever you stay,

I'm next over in September not for work but to see Oasis at the MetLife and have booked the Luma Hotel on 41st street. It was decently priced for dates we wanted, though I've not stayed there before.

I've stayed in various of the chains (often Hilton's) around Times Square as well as the Sofitel. Last time I stayed in the Soho Grand which is (unsurprisingly) in SoHo. It's decent and trendy area but not cheap. Prices can vary a lot in same hotel at different times. Best is to do non refundable and just to commit to the dates.

If you want to go budget, there are some perfectly ok mid range chains in the Secaucus Junction area and that's a 10 minute train ride into Penn. Generally it costs about half what you pay for Manhattan.

Thanks all. Out of interest, which would you say are the best alternative cities to visit in the States/Canada?

Have been to Boston, Toronto and Alberta before, but would happily return to any of them. San Francisco has always appealed.

I'm a sucker for Southern California, I will never get bored of LA or San Diego.

For something a bit left field, Pittsburgh is a fantastic city - very walkable, lots to see and do, and an incredible sports culture.

Denver is also very walkable. It’s been 20 years but it was a terrific place to spend a weekend. I’d say Austin, but I was there even longer ago and it’s apparently not changed for the better.
Never been, but I hear very good things about Asheville and Memphis, also. Like Austin, small progressive-oasis cities surrounded by rampant redneckery.

I really want to go to Portland. Mainly because of Portlandia.
