To be fair it is heavily based on the book American Prometheus which is primarily about Oppenheimer the individual and the (ahem) fallout from his being (like most people) a complicated individual who held contradictory thoughts, feelings, and - most importantly to the main plot of this film - political opinions.
Anyone wanting a story primarily about the development of the early program would be better off with Fat Man and Little Boy. Or if they’re more interested in the Japanese side of things and the dropping of those weapons, Barefoot Gen, among other examples.

Tricky o spectrum Tricky. I am fully aware that you are a nuclear physicist. I am also aware that if I watch the film I probably wouldn't be commenting on Florence Pugh. Although your assertion that she is an average looking human is not something that I share and you are attacking her on her looks (very sexist of you).

I wish to see the film because of the historic importance of the Manhattan Project and also the politics behind the whole damn thing. I believe that is a massive part of the story. Don't get your bee in a bonnet because of a joke made based on someone else's comment. I know it's an important subject to you but I digress. I look forward to seeing this cinematic masterpiece and reporting back to the talkback community which no doubt will have some awkward odd comments/ counterpoints to my review.

Chicago: Going up in smoke.

As well as the Manhattan Project, the story of Oppenheimer himself and the politics and personalities of the time is important. So it’s worth seeing the film even if you just want a docudrama

That said, the film itself is great. Nolan is a great filmmaker who can take factual or fictional stories and make something that is a visual and auditory pleasure. I think he also makes his characters and stories multidimensional and, as a result, more interesting. I like the way he messes around with time and perspective. Some of his films are a bit extra but they are always provocative. Someone said this was not his best but it’s still very good.

Chicago: Claiming dibs.

The Deepest Breath on Netflix is absolutely remarkable. The photography, the editing and particularly the actual story are stunning.

Everything A24 touches, including documentaries, turns to gold.

Russ is right. The Deepest Breath is a heartbreaking and moving documentary. It really is magnificent. Highly highly recommended.

It washes away the mediocrity I have been watching recently. Polite Society which tries too hard to be a social commentary on the Indian Caste system whilst being a Hip English movie but trying to capture the American market with lots of Americanisms. I didn't hate it but only the ending is entertaining. It reminded me of Sex Education (the tV series) which tries to straddle two cultures. A Bit of a muddle.

Flamin' Hot about the bloke who invented the hot Cheetios. Deadly dull mediocrity about an interesting subject and the latin culture in the USA. Probably didn't like the preachy-ness of it.

We try and watch a film every Saturday night. I don't remember any of them. I think we have been slightly distracted but wow the mind has gone... must have been the time under water.

Son wants to watch a properly scary film. What's available on UK streaming?

I watched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom on Disney+ last night. The most scary of the series by far.

I do not know how old your son is but I am 49.

I was terrified by Annabelle. My daughter was loving it but I turned it off after 15 minutes because I didn't think it was suitable. Or maybe just a little bit I was terrified.

I think your son is mid teens, right? What classics has he seen? I feel like he's the right age to experience The Exorcist.

I’d be interested to see the response. In my (albeit limited) experience, the current youth don’t think it’s a big deal at all.
That said, I did have one student call Psycho “high key terrifying”. So you never know.

Just watched the Mark Cavendish film on Netflix, I really enjoyed it.

Got a bit dusty in the room at times.
