I’m going to watch a cartoon at the cinema tonight.

The new LOTR thing? Will await reports, as I want to see it, but reviews not been great so far, so may just wait to watch at home.

Yeah. I’m a massive nerd but not really that fussed about it. But some lads at work are even bigger nerds and it beats a night sat in my pants with an empty Pot Noodle.

    Maybe.

It wasn’t very good. I’m fairly easy to please. But no, not good.

It wasn’t awful. But not worth a cinema trip.

Worth it if it's essentially 'frre' for me with Odeon Limitless subscription and 10 minutes walk to cinema?

As an aside, old people should get a limitless pass, stay in the cinema all day and not have to heat the house.

The Heretic is proper good in every way. Challenging thoughtful psychological transcendental horror. As Kermode says, Hugh Grant is at the peak of his career. Manages to be simultaneously restrained and completely over the top. I'd watch just about anything Hugh Grant is these days as he's worth the entry fee by himself.

Speaking of Hugh Grant, I just rewatched Love Actually. Still terrific.

We saw one of the best films of the year and absolutely the worst.

Conclave starring Ralph Fienes is a surprisingly gripping story of the Vatican trying to replace the Pope after he croaks. It is very well done and as with everything I like it castigates religion. I really liked it.

Sex Positive on the other hand is a film about polyamorous people who want to try out every sexual activity they can whilst swinging and other things. It's billed as a comedy but it's so unfunny it might be funny. The acting is atrocious and the naked people are not attractive and it's shit but we still watched the whole thing and still asked ourselves why we watched it. Like a clear case of Stockholm Syndrome we couldn't answer the question.

    Chicago: Experiencing up and downs.

Smile 2 is a mediocre movie saved only by a good performance from the lead actress.

Didn’t see it as castigating religion per se. Clearly was on the side of ‘progress’ in the context of religion but was in favour of religion overall, if done in the right way. Fiennes is amazing - lots of closeups of his face being subtly sad or disappointed.

Although, having said that, the 'conservative' was the coolest cardinal and the one having the most fun.

Carry-On is stupid action fun that requires an awful lot of suspension of logic in order to overlook the gaping plotholes.

Carry on (the Netflix thriller not the Kenneth Williams films), is complete Bumpkim. I am not saying I didn’t enjoy it but Die Hard 2 was better and that was one of the weakest Die Hard films. Anyway very very silly with utterly terrible acting. Although I do seem to enjoy everything Jason Bateman does nowadays.

Love lies Bleeding is another bag of spanners altogether. Great acting. Gritty action. Despicable characters and an absolute mental fever dream at the end of the film. It kind of has a there will be blood ending vibe to it.

I liked it a lot and not because it’s a lesbian murder/revenge thriller film. Lots of flying things (more than Carry on anyway….).

    Chicago: Giant Lesbian.
