Are you? Because not being shitty to each other is a pretty good place to start debates, not the end. Maybe try that?

What is shitty about a robust exchange of views, and forum in which you are free to express your opinion? I don't mind if I have challenged you, as I don't mind that you have challenged me. If you mean it would be nicer and fluffier that I told you that you were correct, when I don't think that you are, then...well.

Afactually criticising other people and claiming they have a view that you don't like doesn't show an open mind. I think you are broadly correct, and wrong in the details, but dismissively approaching disagreement is bad faith. Like so many online folk, you might say you want a debate, but you just want to pontificate with ad hom comments.

Point out to me the bits where that is a fair criticism, and validate it by showing how the alternative view leads to better outcomes. Otherwise that's just a groundless accusation.

Another on the ground report from RC JR MKII who is, I feel a real star TB contributor today.

When asked if kids use the R word these days, she says it’s been banned in her school and if used you get hit with behaviour pts (which can build up to a detention).

She then went on to say that now when someone does something dumb (or spaccy as we used to say) they now say “you’re so restarted” and if challenged on the similarity to the banned R-word- they say they’re talking about a computer restarting when it crashes. Teachers largely don’t care, probably because fucking hell it must be exhausting keeping up.

RC JR MKII is something of a parrot where naughty words are concerned. So I’m afraid I won’t be putting that question to her, on account of her behaviour pts already accrued this term…

Ok try a different angle, what do they call the box with the spare PE clobber in, for kids who have forgotten their kit?

I actually did a post asking about that on social media this morning!
I rarely watch TV and hardly ever watch films, but I've heard so much about that one I'm tempted to try it. It seems to be a bit like Marmite with some loving it, some hating it, but very few indifferent to it.

Put me in almost indifferent. I liked it well enough. It’s just not as original or shockingly transgressive as a lot of people seem to be making out. It also did a (honestly, really minor) thing near the end which I see in a lot of films (most recently Joker) which annoys me.

Flashbacks that show how the protagonist is an unreliable narrator (Joker’s relationship with his neighbor) or, as in Saltburn, explain something that is fine being left up to the audience. E.g. Oliver’s laptop screen to explain him bumping into Felix’s mum.

Richard E. Grant and Rosamund Pike great as always.

My explanation’s in the spoiler. The point is not that lots of films do it (I admit I exaggerated a bit there) it’s more when it’s not done well. I think it’s weak writing and doesn’t give the audience enough credit to figure it out for themselves. Also, I enjoy ambiguity in storytelling.
