The wife and kids are just sitting to watch Polar Express after coming home from the panto.

That movie freaks me out. It was on the verge of cgi stuff looking almost-ish real, but also fucking weird at the same time.
Also RC JR mkI had a thing for that movie as a baby and watched that (or Jurassic Park) once a day, even in the summer.

Luckily I have a bottle of Fireball that needs a dent putting in it, and I’ve almost recovered from the all-dayer on Friday…

Pearl (better, in the sense that it tried something new)

The credits roll for Pearl is really something. Mia Goth is an absolutely magnificent modern scream queen.

Have you seen Infinity Pool? It might well be my movie of the year, and Goth is once again brilliant and terrifying.

I haven’t but I really want to. Skarsgard tends to pick weird and wonderful stuff and it’s Cronenberg’s son, iirc and I heard good things about his first couple of films.

I haven't seen his first one but Possessor was also superb. He is very much his father's son, and it has all the squelchiness you'd expect from a Cronenberg.

Definitely interested now. Hoping Panos Cosmatos does another film soon. I loved his contribution to Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities (overall a great series, I thought), Beyond the Black Rainbow is suitably weird and unsettling, and Mandy is my favorite film of the 2010s.

I enjoyed Tenet, but would it have been better with a more interesting/engaging star?

Saw Wonka at the cinema today with wife and kids. Really enjoyed it, though I think the nostalgia factor with the main song played a part. Chalobet is good.

Character is literally called "the protagonist". Think it's safe to assume Nolan wanted him to be a blank slate.

It’s Xmas Eve, so time for a quick visit to Nakatomi Plaza. Other Xmas films I intend to watch this season will likely include: The Nice Guys, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and The Long Kiss Goodnight.*

*I realize there is a theme here, but Shane Black pretty much has “action Christmas” locked down. Not sure if Lethal Weapon will get a run out, mind.

While Shane Black didn't write Die Hard, he did at least write "Die Hard", the title of the movie.

Did the same apply to Fight Club or is this just some undercooked analysis?
Protagonists can still have charisma as cyphers.

Fight Club’s narrator is unnamed in the book, so not Fincher’s direct choice in the same way.

We've got thirty minutes left. It's fine so far.

Don't think I realised until today that I definitely would Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Winding Mrs Shady up by insisting that she's the spitting image of Vicky McClure.
