The Creator was an astonishing-looking piece of formulaic crap. It's like they wanted to make another Avatar, so they cast Denzel's kid as Sam Wardrobe and a bunch of talented actors to lead the Good and the Bad (I'd watch Allison Janney and Ken Watanabe in most things). The first 20 minutes absolutely hooked me in, and the last hour made me just wsh it would end. The child actor was simply wonderful though.
I've seen Washington in just this and Tenet, and he's been blandly rubbish in both. Is he just a nepo baby?

I think this might be the first year, since before I have memories, that I haven't watched a single film.

  • 24 Dec 2023, 3:46 p.m.

Just watched that. It was a fairly harmless way to spend some time sitting on the sofa while still feeling a bit ill. I’ve seen better but also seen many, many worse.

    M. Night Shamalamadingdong would have been embarrassed to put out this try hard bullshit whose primary message was "all those conspiracy theories are right and you should start prepping". There were so many things that either didn't make sense

    or were just laughably stupid

    I absolutely hated it.

Thinking of watching Leave the World Behind tonight. I hear it’s pretty good.

I watched Dial of Destiny t’other night. I thought it was decent.

It's the 4th best indiana Jones film.

Clearly you are a jokester. Dial of Destiny is prime wank. Hideous film. I stopped watching leave the world behind half way through. Tried to watch maestro and was bored senseless after 10 minutes. Stopped watching and put on the Equalizer 2 which is rather pulpy but way way more watchable. Enjoyed the mindless violence with Denzel trying to be all gravitas and shit. As in he kill’s people and is almost philosophical about it. Good times after a few drinks.

We are also watching the mark cavendish documentary. Top watching.

    Chicago: Mixed bag.

Think we're going to watch Dial of Destiny later with family. Honestly. Seems to be the most inoffensive film we can think of that everyone will watch. I'm open to other suggestions if you guys have them.

DoD is alright tbh. It’s not as good as the first 3, but if you can get past the cgi it’s a fairly decent romp in search of treasure which is a family movie over the holidays staple.

  • 24 Dec 2023, 6:25 p.m.

Better than a National Treasure (which I enjoy just fine)

  • 24 Dec 2023, 6:26 p.m.

Yeah, I didn't mind Dial Of Destiny. It's silly, forgettable and inoffensive family fun (something the Raiders movies haven't always managed).

  • 24 Dec 2023, 6:30 p.m.

Too many deaths of "nice" characters to quite get that rating from me.

  • 24 Dec 2023, 6:32 p.m.

Also not Short Round kills someone quite brutally. Although they don’t realise emphasise it.

  • 24 Dec 2023, 6:40 p.m.

Mmm, maybe. I don't have children and I watch a lot of horror movies, so I accept that my scale for what constitutes "inoffensive family fun" might be somewhat inaccurate.

I enjoyed BlackkKlansman just fine. Depends on your Spike Lee tolerance level (although it’s not as prevalent as some of his other films ). It may also profit from having a great cast around Washington Jr.
Also, I know so many people who really dislike Tenet and I really liked it. Taking the advice at the start “don’t think about it too much” and realizing the end is basically the Excellent Adventure way of dealing with time travel made it a reasonably fun movie for me. I also watch pretty much everything with subs on so I wasn’t affected by the sound issues many people complained of.
My recent films have been a double bill of X (not bad, wore it’s influences on its sleeve) and Pearl (better, in the sense that it tried something new) and would be happy to see the third one whenever that comes out.
Xmas movies I’m looking forward to watching once the kids go to bed are traditional (Die Hard) and more recent traditional (The Nice Guys). Just wish Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was on streaming.

The wife and kids are just sitting to watch Polar Express after coming home from the panto.

That movie freaks me out. It was on the verge of cgi stuff looking almost-ish real, but also fucking weird at the same time.
Also RC JR mkI had a thing for that movie as a baby and watched that (or Jurassic Park) once a day, even in the summer.

Luckily I have a bottle of Fireball that needs a dent putting in it, and I’ve almost recovered from the all-dayer on Friday…
