After six years I've finally accepted it's time to get a new phone. I've had a good run (OnePlus 7 Pro), but it is now struggling.
Anyway, any tips for a new android phone? looking at mid to high end as I want it ot last for a while. Lots of storage, not so concerned about camera as they are all more than enough for my purposes.
OnePlus are still a very good option.
I'm on a Pixel 8 at the moment. I'd go Pixel or OnePlus.
Oneplus are making it harder to unlock bootloaders, and don't have the long term support of the pixels. The google offering wins significantly on that front for me. I'd be buying something with eSIM support if I wanted it to last...preferably as a dual sim, nano and esim for provider flexibility.
I've not looked extensively...but the pixels have long term support, more vanilla android experience (less fucked up with 3rd party bloatware...just the google stuff that you get anywhere else as well). They do support dual sim with one esim (check model). They are the most supported with third party firmware. The come with model options that are 'reasonably' priced in the context of the market.
It's the sensible option (I'd definitely look around for other unlockable phones, with good third party support, and lower spec/better value - possibly motorola, huwaei...but this its the edge tinkerer option).
If you want full buy in to everything they want you to have, the samsung galaxy's still rule the roost.
My only reservation on the Pixels is that I don't believe the build quality to be as high as the OnePlus phones I have owned. I mean, maybe I am becoming more of a fuck-wit as I get older, but they just seem to damage more easily than the OnePlus phones. Even despite the expensive case I have it in.
I would say the camera is superior on the Pixels if that is a big concern.

Me too, although a more budget to mid-range handset. Fine for what I need.
Thanks all. Yes, I like the OnePlus for sure. Will take a look at the Pixel; not too worried about the price. Dual SIM would be nice; my current isn't even 5G so an upgrade is due. I was leaning towards Pixel or OnePlus again so this confirms it. I don't like the bloatware on Samsung phones, so that's out
Careful what you wish for with 5G, pretty shit in a lot of places for me. Doesn't seem shit enough to drop to 4G, but annoyingly slow.
I don't want to download a 4k movie in 3 seconds or whatever, I just want a normal web page to reliably load.
That's an issue of the network, not the device.
I know, but there was a comment about current phone not being 5G ready. Which in UK is a blessing not a curse.
