Yes of course, I'm talking specifically about refereeing decisions.

The keeper will be fine...part of his style is to pat down, or push out, when others might be catching...he's not massive, but his early footwork over the first couple of yards as a shot comes in, is first class. Henderson is a self-inflated confidence balloon. Turner a study in focus and the nine yard stare. Both good keepers, the defence is calm in front of them both. I can't decide which I prefer at this stage...but I'm okay with both. They are both pretty decent. You can do better than both...but Turner is definitely the better price (value).

Deffo, Tricky. But I have little confidence in Horvath or Hennessey if Turner were to get injured, so we still need another in my opinion

The only question over Worrall's red card is whether Boly was a covering defender, so whether it was a clear goalscoring opportunity.

He definitely grabbed shorts and pulled him down.

That and whether the ball would have run through to Turner before Fernandes got to it.

Does the home side get more favourable treatment from the referee?

  • 29 Aug 2023, 8:53 a.m.

    Of course!

My views on Horvath are a matter of record. Hennessey has bags of experience, and can come in and give you a 7/10 occasionally in extremis.

We need a strong number two.

    That's mornings for you.

Generally I think there is a big player bias.. that is, players have reputations and that influences decisions (a renowned diver is more likely to be assumed to have dived etc). Bigger players have bigger reputations and play for bigger clubs. So no matter how fair a ref intends to be.. if they see Joe Worrall (a relative nobody) pulling down Bruno Fernandez (an established top talent) they can’t help but have a bias in favour of the big player.

It’s probably a marginal thing, but top football matches are marginal.

Dick Van Dyke got sent off for a more obvious professional foul than Worrall. He’s as big a name as they come so if anyone is gonna to get the benefit of the doubt it is him… so all fair there, although the media types.. who absolutely do contribute to whatever bias the refs imbibe, have chosen the Liverpool player to focus on.. not the more marginal and, ultimately, more significant, Worrall decision.

So I don’t think refs are corrupt or scared to upset the big boys… but I do think they absorb the world around them and cannot help but be more disposed towards the players they know well than the ones they don’t.

As long as he doesnt have to move his feet or dive.
    Well past the knackers yard.

Well, yes. But the number three position is mainly part training partner, part coach.

I am assuming that we will have a credible number one/two. By which I don't mean Horvath.
