To be fair I wrote him off after 0 games based on his CV. I'm open to being proved wrong though, as I was with MGW, but I haven't seen anything yet to suggest his arrival represents progress in the goalkeeping position from where we were last season with an England International with cast-iron confidence (not quite as good as he thought maybe, but good enough for us) and a champions league winner.

Really don't see the point of that. You could make an argument both ways about the red card and penalty, so neither will be deemed a glaring mistake.

Worrall clearly fouls Fernandes and it's inconclusive whether Boly gets around on the cover, while Danilo catches Rashford for the spot kick. He didn't clean him out but it was a tired waft at the ball against a quality player who accelerates past opponents so quickly. We'd have been screaming for it at the other end - can't have it both ways.

As many have said already, the main thing to take from the game is the palpable sense of disappointment this season that we didn't secure a result, against the resignation of getting spanked (four times) by United last year. We've come a long way and it feels like significant progress. I'd suggest forgetting the officials today and moving on to the next match with good heart.

I think its good Mr M is focusing on external factors rather than on internal factors

  • 27 Aug 2023, 10:27 a.m.

    Agreed.

I can't help but feel irritated that we've put in two good performances against Arsenal and United away, and come away with nothing from both bar a injury for McKenna and suspension for Worrall.

Any indication how bad McKenna's injury was?

Also will Worrall serve his suspension against Burnley in the cup, or is it the next league game?

  • 27 Aug 2023, 10:40 a.m.

McKenna is another who is just not good enough.

  • 27 Aug 2023, 11:22 a.m.

I mean... everyone knows this, right? He was bought as a Championship defender, did a solid job for us in that league, doesn't play when our first choices are fit and we are actively looking to upgrade his position.

"Just not good enough" seems like a crass and judgmental way of putting it, though.

  • 27 Aug 2023, 11:37 a.m.

McKenna's also 26, which isn't old for a centre back, and has had injuries which have consistently messed up his development.
He's not worth his place at the moment, except for being one of the best available options. I like him a lot, and still think he can improve into the Prem standard.

  • 27 Aug 2023, 11:47 a.m.

I think the club has got to be ruthless and jugdmental when taking decisions about how we improve. Worrall and McKenna are two good examples of this. They're brilliant servants and good players but they represent a type of player who isn't going to take us further forwards. (Some would say Yates is in that category too, I don't share that view though as I think in terms of the influence he is capable of having on games he is top level even if technically he is average and if and when he works out how to add goals to his game at this level (as he did in the championship) he could be eve more effective.)

Again, he's a troll. I just scroll past without even looking at his comments. Regurgitates Twitter opinions to get people to talk to him. It's pretty weird tbh.

  • 27 Aug 2023, 2:35 p.m.

I'm not biting anymore, sorry to disappoint. Your fixation is the only pretty weird tbh thing.

  • 27 Aug 2023, 2:53 p.m.

I mean, nothing about Jim saying crap like that makes sense. There are only two possibilities, either (1) I'm a troll and if that's true I would find him saying stuff like that gratifying because that's what trolls do; or (2) I'm not and I find it annoying to be constantly, interminably told that I am one. They are the only two possibilities and Jim is therefore wrong to say that stuff in every event. Or maybe he is a troll himself.

Is he though? His main 'controversial' opinion seems to be that Turner's not good enough. I don't agree, but think the jury is still out on that one. It's certainly not an outlandish point of view.

    Enjoy yourself.

There are plenty of knee jerk comments above (you can point that accusation at plenty of people on here) but none of it is trolling as I understand it.

For the record, I also think McKenna isn’t up to this level but there are no good alternatives at the moment so he has to play. Turner also looks suspect at times but needs a bedding in period before we know for sure if he’s got it or not (I suspect he hasn’t, but would love to be proved wrong).

The opinion I’d take issue with is the one on Worrall. We need players like him who are Forest through and through and are willing to run through walls for the manager. Yes he’s not the best by any means, but he’s improved a lot in the last year and we need that sort of character around the club.

Interestingly Alexis McCallister had his red card overturned when his red was way more obvious than Joe. Thank god the Premier League isn’t bent…

    Chicago: controversial.

I think we have pre-conceived notions about players based on what they have done before. Also their debuts. Remember last season with Taiwo? He couldn’t stay on his feet then bang… Turner seems better to me than what I feared. I also believe he is a decent character. This love for Henderson is interesting because yes he had passun and saved penalties but he let in some long shots that shocked me. Also his kicking was utter wank.
