Jota!
Hi-ho Silva
Booo!
Bang goes another 2 points.
It's such a joy listening to the pundits and commentators saying things about us like "Forest at their devastating best".
Must be one or two on MotD tonight.
They really were. First half-hour was fairly even and then Forest did to Ipswich what many good sides did to us in our first season - turned a one-goal lead into three in the blink of an eye. Forest were really solid - Anderson was everywhere and Delap was marked out of the game.
One interesting thing in the first half was that every time Ipswich got a ground goal-kick, the centre half took it and passed to the goalkeeper. The centre halves then split left and right - the idea was clearly for the goalkeeper to pass to one of them once he was closed down. But Wood and co deliberately didn't press him and sat on the centre halves, so he kept advancing with the ball at his feet and nobody to pass short to. Most times, he'd end up awkwardly turning back around to find a full-back who had no option to smash it up the line and the ball was turned over.
Clearly, very few sides Ipswich have faced this season have not pressed their goalkeeper in that situation and he had no idea what to do. If it was a specific Forest tactic, it was clever because it left the ball with the least competent Ipswich player with his feet. McKenna obviously does not allow his keeper to hoof it and Forest kept forcing them into mistakes.
I noticed the Ipswich fans were getting a bit grumpy with their passing approach when it was 3-0. Taking 30 passes to get from the keeper to the halfway line. There was some audible boos and sighs. Yet every time we played a long ish ball we looked threatening! Must have been alot of home fans muttering about changing approach to try and be more effective 'like Forest do'.
That's what we did to Swansea in the 5-1 game in the promotion season.
It's managers copying Pep without having his players. Give Ederson that space and he pings a pass to someone and creates a threat.
Good recollection and totally correct. I remember it.
We're first on MOTD for anyone interested.
I wouldn't bother watching Danny Murphy's analysis, it's shit.
For those who weren’t there, the pic of MGW looking puzzled they showed at the end was his response to us singing “England’s number 10” after the final whistle. There was also a long rendition of “Thomas Tuchel, what a wanker, what a wanker” during the match.
Gibbs-White was terrific again yesterday.
It amused me when Elanga scored and then pointed to the Adidas logo on his shirt. Either he’s fishing for a sponsorship deal or he isn’t quite sure where the Forest badge is.
